I've always seen April as the turtles peer and around the same age, not as a parental figure. Even though they are the TeenageMNT I always saw them as a bit older like say 18-22 because of how they acted which is also the age I saw April as. So if the turtles are going to actually act like teenagers it makes sense to me that April will too, I have never seen April as a babysitter and thats how I would feel if she felt much older than the turtles.

This makes me think we're going to have scenes of April sneaking out of her parents house at night to meet the Turtles. I know they said April's parents were minor throw-away characters, but I'm guessing we'll still see them at some point.

I think she's going to be their age so there can be teenage drama between them. Then I'm sure they will throw in stuff about her always being late to class and smelling funny because of the turtles. I'm sure she will get grounded at some point and be unable to help them, probably grounded because she helped them some other time. She will probably have no friends or like one weird friend who she starts to ignore because of the turtles. I foresee predictable plot points. Making her the proper age would eliminate that completely. I see why they're doing it I just don't care for them too.

As long as Don doesn't find a way to make the Krang holo disguise things work for the turtles and they start attending high school or something I'll be fine. If they do that I think I'll have to give up completely.

That and they are doing it to create a more "relatable" April for the goal demographic. I am thinking a girl 8-12-ish would be more interested in seeing a teenage heroin then an adult heroin no matter how silly and sewer smelly she may be

Maybe it is just me, but as a 8-12 your old girl. I'd prob wouldn't give a crap about April or if she was relateable. I would watch it for mutant turtles.

They wouldn't be doing it if they weren't trying to reel in more girl viewers. I'm sure they want April to seem less like the Turtles Mom and more like their friend. Kids in general will relate better to other kids/teenagers then adults.

Or I thought it was kind of adorable in the Turtle Titian episode when all his brothers are picking on him Mike turns to April to tell about his dreams and much like a Mom or even older Sister she helps him out to achieve them.

Which later in the comic series considering April can't have her own kids I think her relationship with both Shadow and the guys becomes even more special.
I fully agree. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record, but teen April doesn't seem like a good idea. No reason for it. I would rather see April as surrogate mother than as a teenager. The interactions she could have with Splinter alone, as two adults discussing and observing the turtles could make for very interesting plot points....

If they want to bring in younger girl viewers, why not make a new character? Why the heck does the established character of April need to be messed with? It's a new universe, so create a new character...nobody will mind and you aren't messing with Canon.

And I thought the target demo was young boys..?

They will target both genders, it only makes sense in the world of television and merchandising.
Also, as I am a girl who ran around in TMNT hay-day I played with boys pretending to be one of the turtles. I never cared about being April. I do however remember other girls wanting to be included in playing but didn't want to be a turtle.
They know exactly what they are doing

Spoiler:
Funny, they already tried that. I'm ok with aging April if it means bringing Venus in.

Although, hopefully one of the big reasons for Venus (a potential for romance with one of the male Mutant Turtles.) isn't seen with April and Donnie's relationship. From what I hear, we have little to worry about.

While they will target both, one of the reasons Nick purchased the turtles is to bring more male viewers.

Nick has plenty of boy-centric shows as well though...*shrugs*

The only (smart, rational, good?) reason to make such a drastic change to April is to target li' girls.

Well I can see the need to counterbalance the teenie bopper shows. I am actually looking at the Nick website now.

I am sure that boys are the main target but if they can pull in both they will.

Honestly, there has been a thing or maybe a long term trend with turning characters into teenagers among many superhero shows.

Ok, well that is the exact opposite of what I meant. TNM was a total piece of garbage that in my eyes, never happened. I think you know what I meant....
