I think making Bepop and Rocksteady serious right hand soldiers of Shredder is an awesome idea. I believe they have so much potential. The fact that they would be mutants created by Shredder and the Foot Clan would qualify them for high ranks of the Foot and not just lackeys as they are portrayed in the original cartoon. By making them imposing in size and actually smart, they'd give the Turtles a good fight.
I'd love to see a Micro-series on both Bepop and Rocksteady individually. Perhaps Rocksteady, having the military gear, did serve as a mercenary and he is highly trained in military tactics. Maybe Bepop, having more of a punkish style, could be a tenured Purple Dragon who rebelled and joined the Foot. Bebop's gang background would give him higher street skills in fighting and street smarts knowing New York City inside and out. I do think that Bepop and Rocksteady are important in the TMNT history and it would be really cool to see some real character development of them in the IDW canon. |

Ex military and ex Purple Dragon?! That... makes a lot of sense. I want to see that.
I never liked them as goofs. If they were serious soldiers for Shredder, they could be awesome!

I always did say Bebop and Rocksteady's gang in the original toon seemed to be loosely based off the Purple Dragons.

I think that they haven't shown back up again in the IDW series because Viacom/Nick is approving everything and they want to make sure that these two are more than just "pulled-off:" paradoxically, Rocksteady and Bebop are VERY hard to write.

I always thought so too. And while they are hardly triceratons, the presence of "other worldly" war factions such as Krang and rock soldiers always felt influenced by the Fugitoid/Triceraton/Fedration story arc. In season one, it seems there are definitely the Mirage influences, albeit extremely watered down.

I've got a feeling that General Krang is IDW's answer to Krang, the Evil Brain from Dimension X as well as General Blanque, leader of the Federation.
