The movie deal was originally made in early 2009 before the sale to Nick ever happened. This movie was going to come out whether there was a cartoon on the air or not.

100% agreed. The 2003 series was awesome, and as much as I love the Nick series, I think it's still my favourite non-comics version of the whole franchise. I re-watched some of the episodes a few weeks back and I loved them as much as I did 10 years ago. It adapted the Mirage comics in such a cool way overall, and despite some weak spots, it was a great run. And I honestly think the animation will age the best between the three cartoons so far.

Absolutely! Turtles Forever is a very close second to the 1990 movie for the best Turtles movie. Those two are easily the best. Hell, Turtles Forever was a beautiful finale for the Mirage era of the property as a whole.

I don't know about America but the 2003 TMNT series was huge over here in the UK the same way the 80s and 2012 ones are. We also got the TMNT 2007 film which I felt tried to be an amalgamation of the live action movies and 2003 series and came off the back of the success of the 2003 series.

2k3 cartoon may have been edgier than the 87 show, but it was bland as ****. I was born in 93, when I loved turtles they were virtually extinct. KB toys at a mall 45 min away from my house was the only place that carried the figures and the selection was pretty slim. I remember how exciting it was when I saw turtles on the pegs at Target for the first time since Next Mutation, which I had barley remembered. I watched the very first episode of the 2k3 show at like 9 AM when it first aired and I thought it was OK, but it just didn't do it for me. I remember hating the fact that they had brown knee/elbow pads and the overall feel of the show just didn't match the unique animation of the 87 series. I ended up watching the show regularly later on when it started airing on cartoon network at around 4PM daily, but I only watched it because it was right after school and I watched cartoon network regardless of what was on

Some of my 2k3 toys that I still have are painted on with sharpies/****** paint. I must have taken it upon myself as a 10 year old to color in their knee pads. I guess kids are just attracted to bright colors

Agreed. I doubt the movie would have had anything to do with the 2k3 show, especially since the show had jumped the shark long before that

Uh.... yeah it did.. TMNT! (which is now my second favorite TMNT movie) so yeah it was pretty popular it freakin spawned TMNT!

2K3 is better than the OT and the new Nick series IMO it's the most mature and badass TMNT besides Mirage!

There was a movie in progress, but then Laird retired, and sold TMNT to viacom.

Besides, I don't get what Nick show has to do with this movie. It has more in common with OT and even with 4kids, then with anything else. Huge robo-Shredder or the inclusion of Karai are all made popular by 2k3.

Yeah, as a whole, the movie sucked. But I did totally love Mikey and Don holding down jobs and Raph with his Nightwatcher side arc (and his little fight with the devil, which was hilarious!)

The 4kids cartoon was one of the best written action shows of the 2000s. You sound like you watched a completely different version of the show everyone else did.

It's the way cartoons are handled period. I'm having a heck of a time trying to get a hold of anything to do with the OT redsky episodes. I don't even remember them, that's how long it's been since I seen them, and I can't seem to find them on youtube either. The second they are put up, Viacom comes along and takes them down again. Now, I don't know if it's a good thing they aren't bothering with the 2k3 toon. But then again, they don't seem to be that hard on episodes of Nick going on either. They are just funny with the Old toon. Not sure why.

With 2k3, it wasn't an issue of "not being good enough" for a live action movie. It was almost certainly lacking the proper budget.

Nobody knows for sure why we're not getting a DVD release.
