Sorry, I wasn't trying to be too sarcastic. That issue does have its merits and, I have to admit, is a very interesting concept. That said, it is my least favorite issue in Tales Volume 2.

That's the issue where Leonardo was boinking Radical, wasn't it? Not a fan of the idea in the slightest, but the issue itself was pretty cool.

You kidding? I remember in middle school seeing teachers with these and it was absolutely cool to be seen with them. Like a status symbol thing.

finally got my hands on this issue and i abso-****ing-lutely loved it. i was a little worried as i did not really ever like hun in the cartoon but he works here. it did feel a little short but i think the idea was more to get him out of jail and give him a starting point. i think he will be a worry for the turtles as more of a peripheral villain, like maybe they plan to attack the foot or go on some mission but constantly have to consider what hun will be doing. i hope issue 59 is this good. reading 36 immediately before this one was a good idea too!

Thanks dude, happy you enjoyed it! All I can say about 59 is that it's about as different to this one as this one is to #36. It's also a little more light-hearted in moments, but the pages of art Paul just sent me certainly aren't from those moments! King Cobra looks unreal!

You're not too far off either. Right now, he's not the specifically against the Turtles. They're a factor in the bigger picture though...

Can't wait. One of your strengths seems to be your ability to switch gears creatively. The first comic was kind of a noir, cops-meets-ninjas affair, the next was a monster mash, and this latest issue doesn't seem at all out of place next to the best and grittiest of Vol. 1... yet you're able to never turn off the "Badass" lever.

Thanks guys, hopefully if things go well enough and there's a next year, there'll be more. People need to start getting outsiders talking at other message boards, really raise awareness through word of mouth. I see threads starting over at Newsarama and CBR everynow and then but no one really keeps them in the public eye. If everyone from here was out at the other boards I reckon heaps more people would be taking notice out of simple curiosity. Anyway, that's for another thread maybe...

Thanks too, Andrew. I just try to keep things feeling as close to what I love about the Turtles as possible, but also adding things that the fan in me thinks would be wicked to have in there as well (though that's not to say that what I love about the turtles and think would be cool to have in there is the same as everyone else, of course). It's all really very selfish actually

If #36 was crime-noir, #50 was a monsterfest, and this one was urban drama, I'd say the next is probably closer to a detective story, #61 is straight up comic book chaos and #64 is definitely the comedy adventure (at least, I hope it is, I thought it was funny... but I'm a little twisted).

I say all this with the caveat that Tristan knows that he is my 3rd favorite Australian of all time (first being Paul "Crocodile Dundee" Hogan, second being Robert Downey Jr.'s character, Kirk Lazarus, in the movie, "Tropic Thunder"). I LOVED the issue, it's dark and gritty reality.

However...

Excluding the original B&W TMNT / Flaming Carrot crossover, I have never, ever, EVER laughed so hard while reading an issue of TMNT.

"What, Will? What are you talking about? There really wasn't anything funny in this issue, dude. Come on. What's wrong with you?"

Well, I don't think Tristan meant it this way, but... (and I'll spoiler tag this, just in case there are those who've not read the issue yet. But BE WARNED: once you've read what I thought was so funny, you're never going to be able to UNread it, okay?)

Other than that, good fun. And well done to Tristan and Paul both. I wasn't super cool with the idea of Raph swearing in front of baby Shadow (Page 7, Panel 4), but other than that... and the whole funny bit, I thought it was pretty spot-on. Kudos, all around.

Just a few question and observations about issue #56 for Tristan.

I was wondering what type of scholarship did Casey get when he was younger, was it possible that he had received academic scholarship, but due to the "cognitive disabilities" he sustained from the beating that Hun gave him, he was no longer able to perform academically as he once did. This could be a reason behind his confrontation with Donatello, back in TMNT #49.

It will be interesting to see if the effects of Casey's vigilante activities on his relationship with April will ever be explored, the 2007 TMNT movie only briefly touched upon the subject, it seems even more worthwhile to explore in the Mirage Universe since Casey and April are raising a child.

Will this incident help push April along in her ninjitsu studies under master Splinter, seeing April trussed up like a Christmas goose brought back memories of the old cartoon series, while it's good that Casey gets some much needed character development time, I hope April doesn't get left behind.

While I hadn't quite worked out the exact details of the scholarship, it WAS/IS an academic one... The entire Hun/Casey backstory has been mapped out, as have their individual backstories that lead into these events. The dots have been connected, the stories just need to be published

Peter has seen the story idea as has Dan (it was part of the original pitch for Hun), so provided there's a next year, you'll see exactly what this incident means to Casey, April and Shadow as a family unit, as well as how this affects each of them personally.

Every story is part of a bigger picture. I do have a very far reaching plan, which would answer a number of questions like this and which I'd very much love to tell. The focus would initially be on Casey, then split between him and April, and then would shift completely to April.

I enjoyed it very much, my only gripe is the art in some spots but it's not bad enough for me to really get into. It's def.
A welcome change from the normal mirage artists.
I def. hope we get more of this story and find out what Hun did to Shredder.
Def. a great story and my worries about Hun being in the comic world have been crushed by Tristan

Finally my shipment arrived yesterday and read it as soon as i opened the box.
First of all, imo this issue has the best turtle art from Paul. Paul was generally was not zooming too much into scene. ( i am not saying this as a complaint )
In this issue , there are lots of zoom to the face panels. And also that large panel with some really dark tones on turtles that are facing Hun. Just great.
There were some parts that i felt just a bit uneasy with April's face. Esp. till the end of comic, but not very important.

As for the plot, it was good. The most thing i loved is showing Casey with some problematic personality. I mean not just some " i wanna bash head, oh how i hate criminals " type guy. Ofc Mirage Casey is much more than this, always has been. But imo this issue did it better by putting in all that health problems from past thing.
It was a good entry for the new characters to Mirage-verse. They did not stand out of place.

Now back to good old Jim for issue 57 eh?...
