How do people display their old tmnt vhs tapes? - Page 3

I have about 20+ VHS tapes of recorded FW TMNT episodes among other cartoons(Mighty Max, Captain Tsubasa, etc.) Hell I have every Mighty Max episode recorded on VHS. Now do my VHS tapes still work though? I don't know since my two VHS players/recorders broke back in 2009 or so. So I guess I should just throw the VHS tapes away.

My brother used to record every Simpsons episode back in the 90s/early 2000s. So we probably have every Simpsons episode from the first 10 seasons on VHS.

I sent all my home-recorded VHS tapes to the landfill. The buy-videotapes were sent to a second-hand shop, along with some CD's and books.

Only FW tapes I have are the Burger King ones and they're in storage somewhere not displayed. But we've kept all of our VHS tapes of Disney movies and such because we want to.

There's still nothing like watching with the original commercials with all of our favorite toys, snacks, and other great "messages" as they called while using your imagination during the break by thinking "I hope the Turtles aren't found dead as soon as the break ends!" My dream is to have VHS tapes of the USA Cartoon Express bumpers and airings because many of those episodes (especially the CBS ones) were edited for stuff like the Cartoon Express' In A Minute, extra commercials, USA News Updates, and the extended bumpers. That said, for the store-sold VHS tapes, the only thing that's worth keeping is the cover art, since even back then you could have just recorded episodes onto VHS/Beta. That said, they are one of the most affordable collectibles for any TMNT fan looking to start a collection (outside some harder to find titles such as the S7-S8 episodes).

You can find most of that stuff on youtube though. The old commercial bumpers or advertisements. No need to keep VHS stuff of it anymore.

You can't find all of them. And commercial stuff should be archived on youtube because VHS tapes break down.

Youtube is just as capable of breaking down.

There's a lot of instances of VHS, DVD, and Bluray copies of stuff having different cuts, runtimes, aspect ratios, blah blah. There's plenty of reasons to prefer one format over another on a per-thing basis. TMNT VHSes might not really but the best example here, but the boxart is definitely a consideration (of course if that's your thing you should be collecting the LDs...).

Or you can just do whatever the hell you want. Nobody's forcing anybody at gun-point to throw out their physical copies. To be honest, the only reason I keep my VHS copies is the box art f.h.e. was provided with, which was way better than the generic crap we got with Lionsgate!

The Technodrome website has "VHS/DVD Covers". It would be great if you could click on any of them and not only get the cover, but also information about which episodes are on it, which year and maybe also date it was released, format and other stuff. If there is no image, it could still be text. The Ninjaturtles website had such information, so much went lost from that website when Nickelodeon bought TMNT.

I recorded Planet of the Turtleoids of Sky One back in 1992. I have this story on DVD but I'm not going to get rid of it because apart from holding nostalgic value my VHS recording is a rare insight into what was on TV around this feature length premier. Anyone remember Sky Australian soap E Street? Hardly anyone does but I do because I have a commercial for it during my Turtles recording. It's about preservation and documenting the past.

Cubed, people keep their videos because they want them for nostalgia reasons. I have tons of Disney videos that I still have even though I have a lot of the movies on DVD now. Some people just want to do that, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Maybe the advertisements are something that could be bonus for the DVD and Blueray (not as breaks, but something you could chose to watch).

Good point. Books will never die. Also people still keep their old records or cassettes. Why they do that? When they started releasing the music in digital formats all those records or cassettes went to the trash. But wait, all those people who did it that are regretting now because they realize their records have better sound than any digital release. And yes, the turntables and vinyl records are back and becoming popular.

I will never going to get rid off my Star Wars 20th Anniversary VHS. Why? Because George Lucas instead of keeping the original music of the Ewok celebration, he changed when the Blu Ray version was released.

There are always people that collect that stuff. Certain factions of cinephiles and retro nuts go crazy for collecting VHS cassettes. Some claim the quirks of the audio and video quality give viewing a certain charm. Not unlike listening to music on dirty thrift store vinyl with cheap Crosley turntables. Others are probably after it for the nostalgia.

Hell, even some hipstery companies like Mondo still release VHS cassettes.

Plus there are a ton TMNT collectors that go after old merch.

Personally, I just have a thing for old analog a/v tech. I'm also a gigantic nut for childhood nostalgia. On a related note...

There's this documentary about VHS collectors called Rewind This that touches up on the same thing. Have you seen it? You can watch it on Hulu if you have an account. You can even watch it on Vudu.

I can still see the appeal in collecting VHS tapes even though I don't practice that myself. I actually still have a VCR that I use to record things that I want to keep for permanent. Since I'm so concerned about the material wearing out at any time though, I still hope to get a DVD recorder to copy the material to DVD-Rs. When I do play back material on VHS though, there's something nostalgic about it.

I have all the episodes for tmnt on my hard drive and yet I still get the vhs and dvds as I find them. Nostalgic is one reason. Artwork is another. We all have our reasons. I see some people who don't have anything BUT digital media but they are the fastest cryers when their comps crash. If you own anything, you should always expect something to get ruined no matter how recent the technology. People who constantly upgrade are usually the biggest complainers when their stuff breaks. Just chill and let people have their opinions.

My collection was cleaned out when I went away for college. Though I still have the cassette tape where the turtles went on tour. I found it stashed away in an old box in my parent's basement.

Its now up on a shelf with my action figures.

I don't even know if it still plays and to be honest, I don't care to find out
