They've updated previous games like Tetris Forever with new games that werent in the collection but it wasn't DLC.
I can see them adding the PS1 version of MK4 that has longer FMV endings and extra characters not in the arcade.
But yeah if they add anything most likely it'll be games that they already have working emulators for, Game Boy MK3/4 for example.
Sadly that likely means no MK Trilogy for the N64 which has hybrid SubZero and Khameleon. And of course that's No for Dreamcast MK Gold. Though if they make a 3D era collection, I can see them adding Gold since it's the most frequent request

The slipcovers are available for the standard releases for other consoles, but it looks like the one for the X-Box copies is available up to the 31st of the month.

Pretty baffling if that's the reason. There's been working Dreamcast emulation for years now, and I'm pretty sure it's been open source the whole while. And flawless from my brief experience with it.

DLC would make a lot of sense, though. You have the base game with the core MK1-3 and some other rando MK games. Then for the HARDCORE MK fans, charge them $10 a game for like "MK Gold," "Deception," "Armageddon" and so on. I'd probably pay that just to have it all under one umbrella.

Also, you can't just use an open source emulator as you'd like and call it a day.

Why? I always figured it would just be the classic games. The fact that Mortal Kombat 4 is there at all feels like a bonus. I expected it to stop at Trilogy.

My hope was that it would make it to the game after that, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. But that's probably asking a lot, even if they do a sequel to the Legacy Kolletion with the later games.

Mortal Kombat 4 is still very much from the classic era even if it doesn't use digitized sprites. It's also the last MK game that came out on arcades.
It's not part of the 3D era because it still mostly controls in 2D. Unlike the 3D fights in Deadly Alliance/Déception/Armageddon which all use the same engine.
Emulating those games will likely be more difficult, but they can also "remaster" them, so having those 3, Shaolin Monks and that's enough content for a second collection.

You can sidestep in MK4. Definitely it is a 3D game through and through. It is technically more 3D than the last few MKs and all of the SF games.

The physical copies of Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection will be out tomorrow. I ordered the kollector's edition for the Switch 2 at Atari's site, and I was under the impression that they'd ship out the game once it comes out, and the swag would be shipping out next year. I haven't gotten a shipping notification, and I'm now realizing that there might have been an option to ship when available, and I didn't choose that option. So I guess the game won't come to me until the middle of next year. I still contacted Atari to ask them to check on my order, and I have a feeling that I'm not going to like what they tell me. If I have to wait until next year, I might want to still get the individual cartridge at the store, despite its flaws.

I've seen people talk about how Mortal Kombat 4 actually isn't on the cartridge, and it'll have to be downloaded. Just what is going on here?

I am going to wait for a sale and just get the digital version. I probably won't play it too much though because I have hand problems and fighting games are tough on me. However, I still feel compelled to own it due to my deep nostalgia for the first 3 Mortal Kombat games. I don't own a Snes or Sega Genesis so this is my chance to own a version of those classics.

Now that I have a Switch 2 copy, Mortal Kombat 4 is actually available to play. So I wonder what's up with it being said that it's missing and that you have to download. My Switch 2 did have to update when I put the card in, and maybe that's it. It has a game share option, and that's when it isn't a playable option.

The issue is that they don't include Mortal Kombat Gold, which is the best and most complete MK4 version there is. i.e., still better off with emulation then.

A collection like this for Mortal Kombat was expected sooner or later, I guess.

But honestly, I find it difficult to go back to the older MK titles. What the first 3 MK games and Trilogy had going for them was the blood, the fatalities, babalities, animalities, brutalities, etc. Because the game play itself is rather bare bones. Mortal Kombat was the most controversial game around in the 16-bit days and it clearly prioritised flash over substance. And if you didn't know how to do those special moves after the "FINISH HIM/HER" message popped up... you'd miss out on a big selling point of the game. And guess what, pretty much no one I knew irl knew any fatalities. I only learned them when I used the internet in 2001-2002 to look them up while playing Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on the Sega Saturn at times.

As far as classic style Mortal Kombat goes, I'd rather just replay Mortal Kombat (2011), or Mortal Kombat 9, as people casually refer to it.It basically is a modern take on the first 3 games of the series + Trilogy. And it doesn't have ******** like Motaro. Noob Saibot is broken and Shao Khan is a ********ty final boss, though.

The CPU in the single player is cheap and awful in these games. They read your inputs before you put them in and counter you, even on Very Easy difficulty. I hear the collection didn't even do anything to fix it.
