The Cartoons, and subsequent Cinematic Legacies

Taken from it but not changed it so over drastically that it's hardly the same thing.

For example, Batman has several versions and a large history to pick and choose from.... But the movies don't turn him into a cyborg that can sprout actual bat wings. Sure it's a new take and a new interpretation.... But it's not batman.

True, but it didn't really reinvent TMNT, i only see a few things changed, Shredder and Turtles, heck even Splinter seems to have the same characteristics, i remember when people were complaining about splinters actor being white, but everything turned out okay.

mk how is that in any way similar to the turtles

turtles

they are still turtles
they are still ninja
they still have the same characteristic
they still have splinter
they were still mutated
splinter is a lab rat
splinter wears a Kimono
shredder is still evil with ties to Japanese culture
He still has bladed (and really isn't much larger then shredder in the new toon

I dont see any Earth shattering "Changes for the sake of Changes" Out right

Shredder has ties to Japan we just dont know how strong the deep those ties are

turtles are not 7 foot tall hulks they are 6' tall buff turtles(the turtles have almost always been ripped)

the clothing is moot, it does not change their character one bit,

Aprils father helping create the turtle is a hint to taking inspiration from IDW shredder creating the turtles is right out of Wolf series,

The foot as just a more "realistic" version of the foot soldiers from the 80's toons who were robots who use laser rifles


There are still a lot of unknowns but nothing like a cyborg bat-winged batman

You named the only thing this has to do with the tmnt franchise at all. I can also say Chun Li hates Bison cause he killed father, Mario and Luigi still rescue a princess from King Koopa and Goku still helps Bulma find the Dragonballs and uses the Kane Hame Ha.... And look at how their movies turned out.

Hell my bat winged cyborg batman example could still have it be Bruce Wayne wanting revenge for the death of his parents, and his villains could still be Joker and Two Face. It's everything else that's wrong and screwed up.

The clothing is a major part and is definitely not a moot point. Why not make Superman wear orange and the Joker dress in an red suit with blue hair? It's also the fact that for the most part the tmnt got by with headbands and straps and such. Why does all of a sudden after 30 years does it not work and they feel the need to pile extra crap they don't need to be wearing.

The movie is basically saying 'yeah... Your series is kinda ok I guess... But Noone's gonna watch that crap. Don't worthy, we'll fix it up and make it into something that will put butts on seats.

NO i did not the story is still basically the same with small 'Diversions" IN minor details

The Turtles started as turtles Raised by splinter in the sewers after being mutated

Named after artists,

Taught martial arts, By a japanese Rat named splinter,

They are fighting against a evil Genius Who is a man Of power who has connections to Japanese culture, WHo happens to control a Group of soldiers Named foot also with ties to japan, Who happenes to have a daughter Named Karai who is Japanese, And is a martial arts master(now confrimed Via Ultimate visual history)

Shredder has ties to the mutagen

April Who is a news reporter with a camera man Named Vernon who is kind of a downer, Her father worked with the ooze,

Shredder is hunting down the turtles

Each turtles is a master of the own weapons

The Watch over the city during the night to fight crime

They stick to the shadows

Seriously WHAT is this BIG departure from what has come before?

Again what is the huge departure in the turtle that is EVEN close to this "Cyborg bat winged batman"?, Their size? the clothes? Really?? those two thing a pretty superfluous.

They still share that aspects of the opriginal design With "added" culture and personality. THAT IS IT. Leo Samurai (traditional Japanese warrior), Raph Rag tag Brawler, Mikey Surfer skater, Donnie techy Ronin.

If anything this is more similar to the Superman Now where Kryptonian Under armor Verses the Mother made suit that more traditional, or batman now using traditional armored bat suit? Why change Electro to this from this


It doesn't in ANY way take away there character it doesn't drastically change who they are, it wont change how they get things done (except maybe donnie Cuz he can use in tech when ever he needs two)

They changed Superman's look for Man of Steel just because they thought red underwear and tights looked cheesy even though that is a time honored look of the character. Batman's look has been changed numerous times. I don't see how this is any different. The extra accessories don't really bother me that much. I think they just stand out because we are not use to them. It makes sense to me that the turtles would accessorize a bit. They are teenagers after all trying to stand out from one another.

Agreed, but I do agree with another here (can't remember who) that said that all the extra accessories might be a hindrance when they gotta stealth it up...because of that point I'm torn, but overall, the new designs just add character; just another layer to enjoy.

I have to say that while I am one of "those people" who doesn't care for what they decided to do for the models, I do kind of like what they're wearing. Ok, I like what Leo is wearing, the rest are fine, no opinion there.

Except they never wore anything like that ever. Not even something resembling that. I mean I wouldn't mind I they wore it for a scene or a certain mission or what have you. But not as their default look. It's change for the sake of change. In 30 years they never felt the need to over accessorize. Why now all of a sudden do they feel the need to do so?

And if theses changes go with story they're trying to tell.... Then that just means they're unable to tell a proper tmnt story without changing everything around to hell and back. Then maybe they shouldn't be the ones working on this movie.
