Started playing it tonight. Very fluid controls. I love the precise aiming.

The bad: music is very unremarkable when it was always so strong and memorable in the earlier stuff. And also remember all those late 90s games, where you'd play for a while then the game would transition into some kind of FMV and then back? There's a lot of that in this.

First impression is that this feels a little barebonesy.

Back then, it was all about demonstrating and promoting new video game technology. Similair to all those early 1990's Super NES games using the Mode 7 (as I mentioned in the Actraiser Renaissance thread).

I know I'm late to the game (pun not intended) but I recently bought the Switch 2 as a belated self birthday gift and checked Dread out of the library. The controls don't do it for me. Too many multi button combinations to do simple things. The EMMIs are totally eating my lunch. I'd try to "get good" but I'm only borrowing it and I'm unsure i can get used to the controls before I have to return it.

What is the issue with the controls? There's a parry button for enemy attacks (when you see them flash before they strike you). The Emmi sections can be hard, but with enough practice you'll have the rooms memorized and know where to go if you get caught the first time. The game has an autosave by every Emmi Room so losing doesn't matter.

Damn. Apparently I started this game 5 years ago and haven't really played it again since.
