New Ep Discussion: "Same As It Never Was"

Okay, to begin, I almost always love things with time travel, and this ep was no different.

But when you get past the time-travel, Image references, "Future Tense" similarities, and everything else... What I really liked about this ep was Alternate Future Mikey. Mikey's always been my favorite of the turtles, and this toughened-up bad-ass version was just awesome. When he first appeared, hidden by the shadows, I thought it was probably Raph... Then I noticed the nunchaku. My reaction was something like this...

Me: o_o Mikey!?

Don (on TV, same tone): Mikey!?

Me: That's what I said!

I SERIOUSLY hope they make figures of these alternate future Turtles...

I thought the episode was okay. It did sort of anger me that Karai would stand by all this time and let the Shreddar do this stuff. And well Hun's plea to Shreddar was sad (pathetic) so he got the boot. The turtles dying...okay. It just didn't do anything for me.

Why does Leo have the glasses and coat? *ahem* Anyone else think he's a Guardian?

This episode was great and the Utrom-Shredder was a great idea for a villian. Mikey shoulda had a chain saw for a hand seeing as he was missin' half an arm. I liked it when Mikey fought those Foot Clan guys in the beginning of the episode. His fightin' was better than I've ever seen it. He was so careful and graceful. I didn't like how Leo,Mikey,and Raph died so easily. That's the only thing I didn't really like. They didn't ever get killed by a major character which makes it kinda weird. I liked Donny's mech suit. That reminds of the TMNT Mech that are gonna come out. April looked tougher but I didn't like her short hair. The person that thought how Shredder should die thought well about it. Hun looked older and the wrinkled face and the graying hair really showed that he aged. I liked how all the Turtles matured and Leo looked snazzy with his glasses and that jacket.

Wow this was a great Episode. Leo and Raph was kicking Karai butt before they died. Then April came with a Rocket Gun and killed her. It would have been cool to see them fight but o will. I was waiting for Don the make mike a robot arm but he didn't again o will. Angel was still alive. Didn't Hun and Baxter look great. yeah I was wondering way April aged a long and Karai only had grey hair. Those pictures were the preview of Leo's episode cool.

I have not jumped to the "I hate Karai" bandwagon its just after seeing this episode I can understand why people hate her. I still like her, hell she is still one of my favorite characters on the show but after this episode I can finally see why she is hated.

As for Leo possibly being a Guardian... his coat wasn't quite the ones the Guardians wear (didn't have the big collar), nor were his shades (circles instead of oval-like shape)... and he didn't have the Utrom pendant thing. Plus, it seemed all the Utroms were under Saki's control. Mayhaps he could have been an ex-Guardian...

Personally, I agree that he might have been blind. There were several instances where it showed... It's possibly that they originally wrote him in as being blind, but decided against it at the last moment, or something. Who knows (besides the folks that made it)?

I didn't see last weeks episode which is why I wasn't here much.

This episode was very dark. I knew they were going to show what the Turtles been doing before Ulitmate Drako appeared. Since i missed last weeks episode I have no idea what Raph was doing earlier.

It's different than expected. I kept thinking Shredder Raph would be in it, but turns out he's not the new shredder. Has a missing eye like in Image comics. Mikey share has matured more in this alternate reality. The Cap badana did made me think of Next mutation. Surprises in thsi episode: Splinter and Casey dead, Hun and Baxter combined!, Karai still surving the shredder and still looks good for being 30 years older.

I was surprised they showed allot of death in this episode. Sure they had some in previous episodes, but this one had a good number of them. Red Rogue Utrom who is the shredder looks allot different in this alternate future. Just his face was different than his appearance in Season 2.

Since this is an alternate future of what would happen if Shredder succeeded, so none of it will happen in the present date. Since we know they will somehow succeed in defeating Shredder once an for all in the Season finalle.
Sure Karai is still survining the Shredder in this episode, but just remenber it's an alternate future it will be prevented in Exodus 2 parter.

I give it 5/5.

OMG I'm so slow... just noticed that April reminded me of Sara Connor lol. (I think i spelled the name right... have ta check my T3 DVD for that)

And I watched the ep again, and Leo does seem to be kindof blind. When he's fighting with Karai, he doesnt really seem to look at her... juss sense her. Though mebby its juss me.

(pokes her head outta her shell) "is it safe to come out yet?" sry but i couldn't help it. as i was reading through this thread my mouth hung open almost as much as it did during the ep! at the risk of sounding corny: i want to send my support to the moderators & comfort any1 whose feelings are hurt (like kazarai: geez, leave her & each other alone guys, most of us are just being playful )

i agree that the designs/voices & characters of the future turtles were amazing. although i didn't really like leo's glasses. i've been drawing the scenes w/ him & raph obsessively since thurs, but they pain me so much that i've just been drawing him w/ out anything over his eyes. u guys are rt about the morphius thing. love his coat. i wish we did know whether he was blind or not. i don't think he is though. seems like some1 would've commented on it, or it would've been made more obvious. it's weird that the glasses didn't fall off in the fight though. & what's w/ 1 slash to the shell being enough to kill him? it would've been buyable if it was his neck, but they showed that gash in his coat... ah well, *shrug* i guess that's 1 of the things i just have to accept.

dare i comment on karai? nah, it'd be redundant anyway.
i loved raph throughout the entire ep. he lets loose the most heart-wrentching cries! way back in this thread some1 was talking about how he loves leo & they're best friends. i totally agree! i think they're closer in alotta ways than the others. it was almost painfully moving to see raph calling for leo as he reached for him & crawled to his body. oh man, i'm getting choked up just thinking about it.

& yes! i really want them to follow this up w/ a reaction from donny & the others when he gets back. i really hope they show him telling his bros & have them bond. uh oh, fan fic mode: i can see it now...

there's a ringing silence in the lair for a couple moments after don finishes his tale. raph glances uneasily towards leo, who's staring into space w/ a haunted look. raph shudders as he pictures his brothers' deaths mikey's the 1st to speak & attempts a joke. "donny? wow, u got off bad! he sent me off to be a superhero." donny smiles appreciatively, glad just to have the old mikey back. leo snaps out of his stupor & claps his hand on don's shoulder. "are u going to be ok?" he askes w/ his deep, quiet voice full of concern. don starts to nod but then breaks down. the others see the tears & hurry to comfort don. they get into a group hug & all the rabid fangirls like myself let out a collective sigh of content.


so anyway, it's my fav ep but i don't know how they could ever make 1 as good or dark. they've already killed off every1 all at once, it wouldn't have the same impact if they ever actually did kill any1. & it's just so different from all the silly/light-hearted 1s like reality check. i hope they try to do something like it again though.

As for what happened to the Don of this alternate timeline... it's a very good question. Normally, in time-travel plots like this, when future-characters refer to how the time traveling character(s) had suddenly disappeared long ago, they're refering to when the traveler(s) left the past... But that doesn't really seem to be the case here. If it were they'd be saying something like "We never managed to find you after Ultimate Drako attacked the lair and sent us to different realities." Instead they tell him "One day you just disappeared."

Actually, I came up with a rather interesting theory as to why the guys had no idea what became of their Donatello. Remember in "The King" where he met up with Kirby and they took that trip to the dimension that had been created with the warp crystal and Kirby's drawings?

Suppose this were the future of a reality where Don never made it back and he was still stuck in that other dimension with Kirby.

Of coarse there are several plotholes that would prove otherwise (like the tunneler that wasn't built until the beginning of season 2) but still, it's a big possiibility.

Thank you for the sentiments, but please, no more discussion on that matter. Leave the thread to the episode discussion. I only say this to avoid any further discrepancies. Thank you, though, your sentiments are valued greatly.

The incident like this that I recall the best is in the Street Fighter 2 game with that one boss who had an eyepatch. It was always on the inside
I've only checked out this site a couple times (this is my first post) so it's probably been mentioned before, but did anyone else notice in the episode when they were going to fight in the Triceraton arena that there was a scene where they had their weapons though they were taken away earlier? I think it was right befor they got their weapopns back

I was only able to skim a lot of the posts, but as far as Karai not doing anything to stop Shredder I think we have to keep in mind this was a process over many years. Karai probably changed a lot like the Turtles did. I doubt today's Karai would be so quick to kill Leonardo.

I like this episode.

I'snt it ironc that Shredder is killed by his vehicle that he uses in the old TMNT cartoon, you know the drill thing.

Karai looked sexier with white hair, it makes me feel weird that I'm even looking at a 50year+ woman in that way

April reminded me of the mom on Terminater 2, she was so commando.


From all of the turtles I sort of got a different vibe

Mike was now the angry turtle, Leo was wise, Raph seemed a little softer and sad.

I almost cried when they all died, cause I've been a turtle fan for almost 19 years and this is the first time I ever saw the TMNT die in anything.

That is an interesting theory.

Though I'm not sure what, I'm almost positive that there was something that was keeping Donnie from getting back to his bros (not out dimension Donnie, the other one). I dont think that he abandoned them or however Mike worded it. It just doesn't seem like something Donnie would do...

He might have been dead...didn't Shredder think he was dead as well. Does that mean that Shredder killed him himself?

I'm gonna try to see if I can come up with a good theory to write a small fic with when I get done with my current one.
