It would be kinda cool for Luke to go full Obi-Wan and become a force ghost, but it would be weird to kill Han in part 1, then Luke in part 2, no?

I don't see how Han dying was a shock to anyone, to me it was pretty clear when it was announced he would have a major role in the movie. Harrison Ford had said many times that he would never be Han Solo again and we know he wanted Han to die in ESB and again in ROTJ. He was also tired of always being asked about appearing again in SWs and suddenly now we see him very happy doing SW interviews everywhere. What I was worried about was Chewbacca, the whole movie I didn't know if Chewbacca would also die heroically with Han or not. A part of me wanted them to die together but another wanted him to survive. I still have mixed feelings of Chewie without Han but also kind of glad he's sticking around. Ford is now super happy because Han Solo is dead and people will stop asking him to be in SWs again.

The friend I saw it with suggested Luke would be a force ghost by the end of Episode 9. He thinks if Luke were to ever fight a duel he may not allow it to happen, but would likely die as an end result and most likely at his nephew's hand before Rey slays a humbled Ben/Kylo who himself ends Plageuis for good.

So...

Spoiler:
Did they blow up Coruscant? I was talking to someone about the movie today and we weren't sure if that planet that was destroyed was Coruscant or not.

I want to see it again. (The movie that is, not Coruscant... F*** Coruscant!)

No, that was Hosnisan Prime which was the new home of the Republic / Senate. I'm not sure what the reasoning for moving it from Coruscant was.

I've read in a few places that "there's a few prequel references" but they never mention what they were and I definitely don't remember any references to the prequels.

I don't believe that the prequels were referenced either. Aside from referring to the clone army once I don't believe they were despite what you read. This backs up my belief linked below.

I'm sure there was a very strong Imperial (and later First Order) presence on Coruscant. Probably wasn't worth trying to take it back.

Why is everyone so hellbent on Snoke being Plagueis? I'm not seeing many connections...

I would kind of like it if Snoke is an actual giant, with a giant light saber.

Listen to the arrangement in the background as Palpitine tells Anakin his own master's story. It is the same one played when Snoke is on screen.

I wondered how big he actually is. My thought is that he projects himself as a giant because he's really the size of a Coke can.

Thank you. I hate these Plagueis theories. Snoke isn't Plagueis. The Art of TFA book even states that Snoke was originally going to be female.

Yup, I'd be fine too if he's Yoda sized.

Finally saw it, Thought it was great, exceeded my expectations.

About Kylo Ren
Spoiler:
He is the son of Han Solo and Leia and called Ben Solo, the name was taken after Obi Wan, who used to be called Ben in A New Home, He was trained by Luke Skywalker, but turned to the dark side cause of Supreme Commander Snoke.

Luke Skywalker
Spoiler:
Shows up at the very end of the movie, and is gonna be the one who trains Rey to be a Jedi in episode 8, kind of like Obi Wan did with Luke.

Did you just write a book report on the movie?

I was fortunate that my wife let me take a break from daddy duty to go to a late showing with my step son. It was good. I didn't love it, but I did enjoy it. I really like Daisy Ridley as Rey.

For one thing, Star Wars is all about leaving a few HUGE story threads hanging to be picked up in the next movie, that's kind of the gimmick. And for another, much as I like them, one thing I hated about the Prequels was the absolutely ENDLESS mountains of exposition. They felt like they had to stop and explain everything that happened, sometimes as it was happening, and meanwhile, some of the best moments were off-camera, like Anakin slaughtering all those kids, but we were told allllll about it. That sucked. This new one has a lot more "Show" and a lot less "Tell", and I'm fine with that, especially figuring that it's more or less a given that all will be explained in the next one, or two.

I honestly can't complain about what I didn't get when I'm perfectly happy with what I did. Yes, I wanted a lot more, but I went home full just the same. I was satisfied. It could have been such an entirely different, entirely worse thing. Instead it leaves things in a pretty good place. The future looks bright.

I completely agree, no matter what they did, some people were going to hate it for not being one extreme or the other. I've heard people complain it wasn't even MORE heavy on nostalgia, basically bemoaning the fact that it wasn't just a two-hour "Class Reunion" of the original cast, with a little bit of the new guys sprinkled in. Lots of the criticisms, even the valid ones, still seem rather shallow and nitpicky.

One thing someone mentioned in passing, that I also greatly enjoyed, was that this movie had a real feeling of camaraderie and fellowship with the characters, something else I never really felt in the Prequels. Characters in those movies got together, spoke in expository dialog to move into the next scene, then went their separate ways, and you barely got the feeling they'd ever even spoken to each other before, except for the fact that they kept reminding you they knew each other. More Telling Not Showing. That's all those goddamn movies did was TELL you things while more interesting things happened off-screen that you didn't get to see, and so the whole thing felt so empty and forced. I mean the entire emotional arc between Anakin and Obi-Wan would have been so much better if you really believed they ever hung out outside of work. This movie has a lot more Team Spirit, I'll say that. That maybe more than anything felt like a throwback to A New Hope, in a good way.
But do you think the script is well written like Empire and better written than the prequels writing?

Even after the fall of the Empire, there may have been still too many Empire supporters to consider reclaiming the planet. Or they didn't want anything to do with the New Republic OR the First Order.
