Used to play Legend of the Red Dragon back in the day when the Internet wasn't around and after using "MegaMan" and "Spellbinder" or some such crap as an alias I decided to come up with something new. I just thought 'Deathknight' sounded cool and I've been using it ever since.

The Internet was officially instated in 1983 as an academic split-off of the military network ARPAnet (what Rez is prolly talking about). The commercial Internet did not come about until the early 1990's, after the educational restrictions (universities only) were removed.
ARPAnet was started in 1969 as a network of four military computers and was the predecessor to the Internet.
