John Oliver, huh? I prefer Seth Meyers playing off politics and characters behind the Weekend Update desk. Since that is no longer in play I only watch Tonighr Show with Jimmy Fallon semi-regularly.

It's painfully obvious that Finn is in love with Rey, I don't think she feels the way though. My girlfriend thinks they're going to be a couple before the end of the trilogy, so at least some people are seeing it.

The trades were reporting a couple months ago that Lucasfilm was casting a new female lead for Ep VIII and the candidates were reading lines with Boyega to test their chemistry. Most believe she will be a love interest for Finn.

Has no one brought up Poe and Finn, and all the internet following that's gained?

![]() Yes the world is celebrating that pairing indeed. Here's a quick compilation to give you a brief overview of the impact: ![]() ![]() “[Poe Dameron] is unquestionably the space cowboy of this piece. In the past, a guy like this would display all the trappings of typical male posturing — just look at Han Solo. He’s pretty much the blueprint from which characters like this have been copied for the last 40 years. But Poe isn’t like that. He’s different. In the best possible way, he has nothing to prove, and it makes for a very refreshing change. He’s an action hero without a chip on his shoulder. Poe is fearless, but not reckless. He’s compassionate, he doesn’t feel the need to pretend he doesn’t have feelings, even about his little droid. When he’s not whooping in delight while flying, he speaks softly and kindly. He’s confident about his abilities — “I can fly anything,” — but it never transgresses into cockiness, and he admits when he’s challenged. There’s nothing whatsoever to say that all of these admirable attributes can’t belong to a straight man, and, indeed, having Poe as a role model for upcoming generations of heterosexual masculinity sure would be nice. Regardless of sexuality, Poe Dameron is a fantastic, exciting, attractive, atypical portrayal of manhood, and I hope that it continues to be the case. But then, there’s the Finn factor to consider.” Natalie Fisher on Hypable ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

If Star Wars has the first major homosexual character before Star Trek, I will punch Gene Roddenberry's ghost in the kidneys so hard, it'll result in a haunted dialysis machine.
I don't know what that means, but dammit, it's Star TREK that breaks social barriers in sci-fi, not Star Wars.

Do people honestly think Poe and Finn are into each other? Seriously?
Finn thinks Poe is the best person ever. The dude not only stole a TIE Fighter from right out of the Empire's nose, but managed to make a safe landing and come back later in the film to KICK ASS AND BLOW UP DEATH STAR 3.0! No wonder Finn is staring at Poe in silent wonder, THE DUDE IS A BADASS. |

Finn is clearly straight and has a crush on Rey. Poe's sexuality is completely up in the air, but I did not pick up on him being attracted to Finn at any point.

Pah. Bye.
------------------------------------------------ On another news, http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/8/107...ip-off-comment J.J. Abrams responds to fans who say Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a 'rip-off' J.J. Abrams responded to criticism over narrative choices in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a podcast recorded with The Hollywood Reporter this week. When considering accusations that the film relied too heavily on plot elements found in the original Star Wars trilogy, Abrams acknowledged the film could come off to some fans as a "rip-off," in Abrams' words. "I respect every reaction. I completely see that is a problem for some people," he said. "It was obviously a wildly intentional thing that we go backwards in some ways to go forwards in the important ways." Abrams mentioned that the original Star Wars films themselves were based on classic storytelling themes that heavily influenced creator George Lucas. "Those simple tenets are, to me, by far the least important aspects of this movie," Abrams said. "They provide the bones that were well proven long before they were used in Star Wars. What was important to me was introducing a brand new chapter, brand new characters, using relationships that were embracing the history that we know to tell a story that is new." ""We go backwards in some ways to go forwards in the important ways."" Whatever narrative legacy The Force Awakens leaves behind, it will do so having broken some very important records. By the end of Wednesday, the film had grossed $766 million in the US, putting it just ahead of James Cameron's Avatar as the highest grossing film in US history, but $1.3 billion shy of ousting Cameron's film for the No. 1 spot on the worldwide highest grossing list. With an opening in China on Saturday, we'll see if The Force Awakens can claim the crown. |

Still, though, this brings up a good question: has Star Wars EVER given any consideration to minorities? We've got, what? One woman in the entire trilogy (Leia), one black in the entire trilogy (Lando), no Hispanics or Asians, and no homosexuals. And before people bring up the prequels... you can change the names, but you don't get any more numbers. For the prequel trilogy, one woman (Padme), one black (Windu), and that's it. Am I wrong? If so, please enlighten me. But my main question is: are the Star Wars EU books (before Episode 7 rendered them non-canon) any more diverse?

Oh, and J.J. Abrams is a fvcking hack.
Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Wars The Force Awakens. The prosecution rests its case.
