A lot of movies nowadays overstay their welcomes like crazy. Godzilla was too long, TRANSFORMERS oh my god. If it was just a half hour shorter I think I would've liked it more.

Don't get me started on all of these comedy movies that think they're worth a 2 hour run time.
Godzilla was only 2 hours and 3 minutes and you think it was too long? Seriously? I thought it was too SHORT. I think it needed to be longer for more character development and more monster screen time. A movie like Godzilla should have the 2 hour and 45 minute run time, not Transformers. (nothing against Transformers)

Well Godzilla FELT longer than it was I guess. The plank-wood characters killed all interest for me. More time with them would NOT have helped.

They definitely could have told the story they told in less time though. There's a lot of wasted time in that movie with characters staring at nothing and talking about stuff that was already established earlier.

(Not the biggest fan of 2014 Godzilla)

i get this, and i agree 100% as much as i loved the godzilla scenes the focus was way to much on the Human characters, it left me wanting more...but without that proper monster to human ratio it did drag..alot

And it's not so much that I disliked it focusing on humans. I get that and I understand that. The original films do that most of the time. It's just that the human drama is so bland and uninteresting. They had a character in the beginning that was fun and interesting to watch develop....then he's gone and the movie goes off a very boring cliff for the next hour.

Again....IMO.

Especially when they had Bryan Cranston in the beginning, it really showed the drop in quality when they focused on the other characters!

When Transformers finished, the first thing I heard was this woman behind me, turn to her boyfriend and say "you realize that could have been 30 mins shorter, and nothing would have changed."

I laughed, because I agreed.

Thirty minutes? They could have easily shaved off an hour and the narrative would not have changed.

Here's the part where they talk about the Runtime, And about the classic theme.
Quote:
The pair also said that the film will run just under 100 minutes and promised that we “might even hear” some of the original cartoon’s theme song in some manner. The end credits, too, will offer a “very, very fun song.” Mostly, though, their primary goal is to capture the overall tone of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and deliver it in a manner that will palatable for new audiences.

this just ruined my whole day..... and if an hour and 40 minutes isn't bad enough, the eighty seven minute thing made me sick to my stomach.... personally I just feel that there's too much going on in this movie to have that short of a runtime.... but after hearing the 87 minute thing on hour and 40 minutes seems like heaven.... not only that movies with a short run time in the 80s to 90s mark mostly feel generic to me

The original film made you sick to your stomach?

Interesting.

This is pretty standard practice, unless its a very huge block buster. About 80% of movies run this time, especially heavy cgi ones.

Let's just hope the Runtime is at least bigger then the last 4 films.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 = 93 Minutes
The Secret of the Ooze = 88 Minutes
Turtles in Time = 96 Minutes
TMNT = 87 Minutes

Interestingly Turtles in Time was the only of the 4 films to be 3 minutes longer then the 1st one.

It's a little disappointing for me, because it's pretty obvious based on it being about an hour and a half, and how many big action scenes we've seen glimpses of already, that anything that isn't "action" and CGI is going to be glossed over and rushed through like crazy. I kind of like a little bit of decompression in movies - within reason. As far as Godzilla, I wish they'd done a better job handling the humans but I thought for the most part it was fine... I loved the movie but it did feel longer than it really was. I feel it was a good length, maybe could have been a little longer, but they could have used the time a little more efficiently.

I like to really get immersed in the story and appreciate the dramatic "weight" of things. This movie looks like it's gonna be rushed-through.

Being rushed through is what im affraid of and giving the runtime of the film I think I have to agree with you on this one....

We've already seen so many snippets of much bigger, longer action scenes that you just know are going to take up a huge chunk of time. One of my favorite things in the first TMNT movie - and even the third, honestly - were the "small" moments, the character moments (the second one didn't seem to have many). People/Turtles just... talking, playing off of each other. The first one definitely seems longer than its length, NOT because it dragged, because it didn't, but because they were able to do so much with the time. Action and drama, fighting and character moments.

I'm really concerned that a lot of the "small" moments are going to be left out of this one at the expense of the carnage and "Look what we can do with SFX now". Now, the Turtles' personalities are pretty well intact, from the look of it, but what are they going to do with them, in between the fight scenes? Catchphrases aren't the same as characters.

I'm at an age where SFX and flashiness just bores me. It's all fake. Tell me a story. Give me some real characters and have them interact in a meaningful way. Then, I'll eat your CGI cotton candy after I've had my steak.

We'll see.

I hope it won't feel so rushed. Maybe we'll get extras/deleted scenes.

TMNT 2007 ending scene was so rushed it felt pretty bleak.
