Star Wars is uplifting for kids in the same way superheroes are. They're a show about heroes overcoming villains. What else is there to say?

George Lucas has mentioneda few times that Star Wars is for kids and meant for kids in actual on camera interviews so maybe searching youtube would be better. I don't know if he ever mentioned this pre-Episode I only thing I can remember is him mentioning that he created the Ewoks because he wanted a movie that his daughter could love but during the prequel era it was definitely what he used as an argument against fanboys who kept attackinghim.

Star Wars is now Hamlet or King Lear.

I expect depressing endings for everyone. If Luke dies in Episode 8 hopefully it won't be in a rehash of Han's. Luke as a Force Ghost is probably going to happen.

Cubed, I know this will hurt your delicate sensibilities, but Star Wars has always been a space opera. Death and drama have been cornerstones of its storytelling since 1977. The prequels, while seemingly more lighthearted, and with the main protagonist dismembered, on fire, and left 4 dead at the mouth of a volcano.

And that after he turned into a child murderer.

Is the story simplistic? Yes, especially the prequels. But simplistic does not necessarily equate to childlike. And certainly not childlike created with the intent to uplift.

The new trilogy will be following the path will trade by the previous six movies, there has not been a great shift in tone.

Matt, the radar technician (disguised Ben Solo) is now a limited run action figure.

I still can't believe this was Daisy Ridley's first movie...ever. She literally had no real professional acting experience before being cast in this movie. She goes from a virtual unknown to becoming instantly famous in one of the most popular movie franchises of all time, but also the highest grossing movie in box office of all time. And she nailed it. She was great.

And she's only 23 years old. That means we could literally get 40 more years worth of movies with her.

I'm definitely going to check out her next few non-Star Wars films merely out of curiosity. She has talent.

They should get Joss Whedon to direct one. He loves killing off beloved characters too. Well, except maybe AoU's Quicksilver.
Rey has had multiple figures since September before the films release, she was released on force friday.

It's either that or The Bill.

Can someone link me to some place where people discuss how they felt about Han solo's fate in the movie? I want to see if there was any outrage over the death of a beloved character. I want to see the butt-hurt.

I don't think I ever stumbled on any rant or rage over Solo's death, not even on tumblr. People are accepting it pretty well which is surprising.

Probably because it's well known that Ford is done with the franchise.

But its still the end of an iconic character. He gets stabbed and thrown off a cliff like he's yesterday's trash. He doesn't get a heroic death....he just dies.

He doesn't even get to have a final scene with Luke in the new trilogy, and he and Leia don't get a proper sendoff.

I think everyone expected it to happen so that's why you don't really see people being upset about it. I definitely agree with the last part, he didn't get a heroic death and while a scene with Luke would've been nice I did think they missed the opportunity for Leia and Solo to have a good last kiss, they kind of left like "oh yeah glad you don't hate me". And the only way to make his death redeemable would be to turn Kylo Ren good which if they do it would also mean it's a complete rehash of the OT so I don't want that to happen.
