IDW is the top for me. Tom Waltz blows me away the way Alan Moore did when I read his Swamp Thing run. This is the definitive TMNT in my book.

Then comes the 1990 movie... the tone of that film makes it one of my favorite movies of all time.

3rd would be TMNT 2K3. But I only like the first four seasons.

Lastly but certainly not least is the Mirage Volume 1 (the Eastman and Laird stuff) and Tales Vol. 1. I prefer April as a scientist or science student (as in IDW)

I (kind of) like the 87 show's first season maybe slightly. I like what the 87 show did for its popularity and the aesthetics that it brought to TMNT.

The rest is just not my bag. I'm not really the audience for silliness.

1 - IDW Comics: The DEFINITIVE TMNT EXPERIENCE! NUFF SAID!!!
2 - 2003 Series: Seasons 1-5 are the best in my opinion! The Introduction to main-stayers like Hun and Bishop are major reasons for loving this series. Plus it expanded aspects from the original mirage comics to GREATER heights.
3 – 1990 Feature Film: The ONLY worthy TMNT film; II-III were too kid-friendly, CGI a bit to off-topic and the less said about the Bay films the better (even if they brought Krang, Stockman , Bebop and Rocksteady to the big screen).
4 - Adventure Comics: To be fair, I haven’t read all of these comics, but certain storys (Future Shark Trilogy/ Terracide) and characters (Mighty Mutanimals, Null and Armaggon) make this a VERY interesting universe.
5 - 1987 Series: First series I ever watched, but looking back at it, only Seasons 1-2 and 7-8 are worth the watch; the rest is just too SILLY.
6 - Mirage Comics: The original TMNT… just stick to the original volume/ tales and ignore must of the Guest Era.
7 - 2012 Series: I only liked Season 1; after the original writers left, the plot went all over the place.
8 - Next Mutation: Interesting original characters… just WAYYYYY too "Power Rangers" for my taste.

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.

I do like Secret of the Ooze until Vanilla Ice shows up... then I fast forward to Super Shredder and am further disappointed by how he is defeated or defeats himself.

The original writers didn't leave, you're talking about directors. Ciro was there for the entire show. I also don't see how the plot was all over the place, they basically condensed 30 years of TMNT history into one show and wrapped up all the major character arcs.

Screw BayTurtles. And I don't care for The Next Mutation either.

haven't really seen much of the Nick series so can't really judge it.

The rest is fine by me for the most part. They all have things going for them, and my preference changes according to my mood.

So, I have just completed my first read through of the entire Mirage timeline. I was unable to read a few issues or skipped a couple, but I highly enjoyed the experience.

At this point, the Mirage and IDW incarnations are competing for 1st place with the 2K3 series in 3rd.

My Rankings:

1990 Movie

Secret of The Ooze

'87 Turtles, The first(?) Batman and TMNT crossover. (Tie) -Whatever. It's the one where they turn the Joker into a cobra and Bane into an elephant.

Nick TMNT. - Season one was good, season two was good up until they started swapping around mutant henchmen and then it gradually goes downhill from there. There are some good episodes after that, but they were infrequent and the show spent too much time on some plotpoints (Karai's mutation) not enough on others (backstory of Tigerclaw) and going all over the place.

PD Turtles 1- Had good ideas, but the Turtles got waaay overshadowed by Meagan O'Fox and I hated Gundam Suit Shredder. Plus the movie was just lackluster overall.
