Has the Technodrome become generic looking?
The technodrome that inspired the name of this forum was this machine meant to instill fear into anyone who saw it and of alien origin coming from Dimension X.
It was re-designed for Turtles Forever into a Death Star looking generic sphere after the "upgrades" which eliminated its iconic look. However since then the other appearances of the drome have kept that look for the most part, the Nick show and the PD movie bot had it being a sphere that floats with just a generic laser as the "eye". I can't comment on IDW since I haven't read it but the one picture I found online while it does try to have the iconic eye at the top it still looks mostly generic. I remember when TF aired people praising the look as it was "modernizing" the drome since the original looked "dated/80s" but I never saw it like that, I saw it as alien and very different from any other "evil" weapon while the new one has nothing to set it apart. Those are my thoughts, but what about yours? |

Here's the Technodrome in the 2k3 series after Ch'rell re-modeled it:
Here is the Nick Technodrome's the Kraang used: And of course here's the classic Technodrome: But the original classic Technodrome also appeared in the Nick crossover episodes with the original Turtles: I think the original look is still the best. |

I guess you could say the newer designs are more generic, but the old design was kind of a joke, it's not exactly shocking that they changed it.

The original is far superior to other versions. Don't get me wrong, the other versions do a good job at looking alien but the Technodrome is supposed to be a massive military tank from an alien world but that design shows that better.
I don't personally see how it's a joke. I mean yeah you can make the TF Raph joke that it's a giant golf ball but it looks alien enough and totally menacing. |

Guess future incarnations of the franchise could always work in a Japanese influence:
Enter the . . . Technodrome?!? by oldmanwinters, on Flickr

Every bit as ridiculous as the original, and more. But still surprisingly menancing.

The technodrome has been sh*t in every incarnation of it besides the OT. If there’s one thing I’ll agree with OT purist casuals on, it’s that nothing beats the original technodrome.
I wonder how much of that is influenced by the toy? |

And yeah, old school Technodrome is the only Technodrome worth anything. Everything else is just a Death Star ripoff.

The toy really was pretty bitchin’. You never realize the effect slime pit stickers have on you until they’re gone.

The new technodromes look more efficient, scarier, but one of TMNT strong points is horror, with a disturbing connection of things that shouldn't be assembled. A parody of the eye of providence plus a dystopian spherical vessel from space, plus tank tracks for example. I prefer the old technodrome too.

The original is the best one. It's a rather simple design, but very memorable.
How much did that toy cost back in the day? Wouldn't be surprised if it went over 100 bucks. |

When you paired it with the Micro Mutant TMNT, it was the perfect damn size.

I can imagine. Must have been awesome having that toy as a kid. I remember having a big af fire truck that opened in two parts and absolutely loved it. Seriously, I played with that stuff everyday.
