Carmelo Anthony Special (Amazing Adventures)

Okay, this issue went a different direction than I was expecting. I did not foresee the introduction of "Carmadello." The resolution was way too convenient, but the last page suggests the possibility of a sequel.

I was on the fence about picking this up, since the original cover previews suggested a 7.99 cover price for a 40-page (turns out it was only 30 story pages) comic which I just assumed would be a fluff piece making the celebrity guest star look good. Fortunately, they knocked a couple of bucks off before it hit newsstands. I'm not sure why the IDW website seems to price it at $3.99 though.

Even though it was so painfully a printed commercial for the movie, I have to say it was better than I expected. In particular, Chad Thomas was in rare form with his layouts and line work.

Not a Knicks fan but it was funny how innocuous and lifeless they made Anthony. And then ended up demutated.

I would like to know if Nick/IDW needed Mello's approval in order to mutate him and if they consulted him as to his anthropomorphic preference.

That's probably the best pun that they could come up with.

I think it's more of an advertisement for his Melo X TMNT line than anything else.

Wow. I actually enjoyed this. Was realllly expecting not to, especially with the boosted cover price, but it was actually better than most all other issues of Amazing Adventures! Like others have said, Thomas' artwork was in TOP form, and his 'Carmedello' design rediculous but awesome (how has there NOT been an armidillo mutant in TMNT before?!). Manning's writing was way better than the usual kids fluff they've been pumping through this series. Enjoyed Bebop & Rocksteady's portrayal here more than in the actual show. I even laughed a few times. Crazy I know. It's still a shameless crossbrand campaign for kids, but it's not just a moneygrab. Pick this up if you're on the fence.
