Hero Comics 2012 Preview/Discussion

This is still a few weeks off, but I figured I'd start this now since I found a preview page of Kevin's story. Enjoy.

That page reminds me a lot of some of the TMNT's urban romps like the short stories collected in Shell Shock: 49th Street Stompers, The Road Trip, The Survival Game, etc.

Pretty psyched for this one.

I already told my shop to put it in my box, but that was a while ago. I'll give them a reminded next wednesday, just to be safe.

Now that is a TMNT comic.

I love IDW, but seeing Kevin do this "thang" reminds me why I fell in love with these dudes.

Spoiler:

Seeing a new comic drawn by either Laird or Eastman for the first time in I don't know how many years definitely catches your attention and it makes me realize that while I do really enjoy the new IDW series, it's not just the "seriousness" of the turtles that made Mirage stand out. Seeing this piece, you remember it's that underground flavor that came with the art and the kind of quirky charm that comes out through it. It's so idiosyncratic that you really can't duplicate it and really is what made it special. Something I'm sure the IDW guys realized a long time ago and wisely chose not to try and do. We just have to savor when E&L take the time to draw the turtles because they really are one of a kind. Psyched for this! Even if it's just a few page short story...

I always love seeing the Turtles have urban adventures; "49th Street Stompers" is a personal favorite short of mine.

I like the gritty "faux-Duoshade" toning used too, gives it a nice homage to the old days.

Is this set in Mirage continuity? If it is it's the first official continuation of that universe since Tales ended in 2010.

Bobby said it very stand-alone and doesn't really matter what universe it takes place in. It can be Mirage if you want it to, I guess.

Man, this has me excited. It's got that classic, old-school feel to it. Eastman still has it!

one thing I love visually here is that kevin is using graffiti letters for the story's title, which is something that vaughn bode used to do in his work all the time....and kevin admires vaugh bode...

You realize it hasn't been colored or lettered yet, right?

And proceeds go to charity.
