Of course this could only be a CyberCubed thread..... I don't think it is the millenials killing everything, it has been going on since the Baby Boomers generation.

If anyone's killed anything, it's the Boomers.

You're right, blaming just millennials is wrong, we should definitely include angry white women of privilege too.

If Good Eats and Mythbusters had a lovechild, it'd be Adam Ruins Everything.

Depends on who you ask. Most official sources I've seen have the first members born sometime in 1980, but a few have it as past 1983: Not all sources agree though, and someone can be considered a millenial in one while being considered Gen Y (?) in another.

I think 'Millenial' and naming generations is more a US thing. I don't think many other countries do it.

Probably. People don't really have a consensus on what is a generation. I mean, per example, let's say someone asks me how old am I. I say 25 and then they ask "So are you from the 1990 or 1991 generation?". Also, in some countries they consider people born during or after certain conflicts as belonging to a certain generation. In former USSR and Communist countries they probably have a term for people born after the wall fell, per example.

Agreed.
The Baby Boomers were quasi-clearly defined, and we Gen-Xers are those that came after the Boomers...but everything after that is far more nebulous to pin down.

It'd be easier if people just said what they meant: Damn kids, get off my lawn.

Tbh, the first generation name I've heard of was baby-boomer. That term seems to be well known worldwide.

That's fitting, given that the war that spawned them was considered a World War.

Would you consider my parents baby boomers for being born in the early 50s, even though my country was not in said war? Just curious.

If they too were part of a post-war population increase, then sure!
Being neutral during a war doesn't mean that a country doesn't also suffer during that war, and wouldn't rejoice when it finally ended.

That said, the only data a quick google gave me for such a thing says that Portugal didn't really have an increase in babbies post WWII.

Well, I figure they'd count haha: My parents grew up with 60s and and 70s music after all. They were part of the Beatles, The Doors and Rolling Stones loving generation.

And yes, makes sense it did not since we didn't have many people dying being far from the war.

I wonder how many people might have died, though. I mean, I believe at the time the country was still going through austerity measures, with the 50s being considered the height of fascism in our country. My parents grew up poor as hell and my mom says it was only by the time the mid-60s or so rolled around that wealth began increasing. This was the capital city btw. i can only imagine in remote rural areas. Bet lots died of hunger.

Probably is a US thing. I was always told I was "Gen Y", whatever that meant. I also heard Baby Boomette before. the kids of the Baby Boomers....so yeah, probably is just a US thing with these terms.

I had heard a Millennial was someone born after the 1980's though I always thought it was defined as people born after the year 2000 which would make more sense.

The way I see it is that we can't blame any one generation for messing up this world. Everyone is at fault in some way and we just have to deal with it.
