RIP Louis Gossett Jr.

Actor Louis Gossett Jr has passed at 87. He was the first black actor to win Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in An Officer and a Gentleman in 1982. He had many other credits, including Enemy Mine, The Punisher, The Principal, Iron Eagle I-IV, Toy Soldiers, Diggstown, Blue Chips, The Bill Cosby Show, The Partridge Family, The Jeffersons, Boardwalk Empire, Bonanza, The Mod Squad, The White Dawn, J.D.'s Revenge, Firewalker, SNL, Undercover Grandpa, and many others. Rest well, Louis Gossett Jr.

Oh that's terrible! I loved this guy as a kid - all of the Iron Eagle flicks and Firewalker. He was just a likeable guy who played great character.

You might be thinking of Eli's voice actor Robert Guillaume, who did in fact die seven years ago. Or maybe Robert Culp who voiced Breen and died 14 years ago?

I actually had no idea that he was in that.... avoided it like the plague. Still love the guy as an actor though.

Very sad. Enemy Mine, Iron Eagle, and Diggstown were staples in my home growing up. I also liked his role in the original Punisher movie. May he rest in peace.

I made it 3 episodes before I couldn't continue it any longer. I don't think there's been a worse example of pure, unadulterated ideology wearing a beloved I.P. as a skinsuit. It had zero to do with Watchmen.
