Why Is Hyperstone Heist Is So Expensive

As you guys may know that I'm trying to gain back games I had to sell at an estate sale before I moved and I'm trying to find games I still haven't gotten back.

What is the deal of Ninja Turtles The Hyperstone Heist being so freaking expensive on eBay? They range from $40 in bad condition to $150 in better condition. I want my games back, but I don't think it's worth spending an arm and a leg for a single game. And it's not just Hyperstone Heist, but Sonic 3 also. I was able to get Monopoly for the same system for only $5, and I had fun getting my ass kicked by the game.

Honestly, I remember it being expensive for a long time. Even 10-plus years ago, it was crazy trying to find a decent copy at a decent price.

I bought it for $30 a few years ago at a retro game store.

Maybe it was a rare title back in 1992, compared to Turtles in Time.

Just get the collection then and you get every game at once.

"But I have to put the old cartridge in my Genisys for the feels!" or whatever.

If it means saving money by getting all 13 classic Ninja Turtles games instead individually, then I'll do it with my next deposit. I'd rather spend $40 for 13 games than $40 for the one game.

I saw you were looking for Sonic 3 in your OP as well, Sonic Origins has the first 3, Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic CD. If you get the upgrade of that, it has all the Game Gear games.

Here you go, plug this into your PC:

https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-Off..._source=1&th=1

"Old school feel," check. Price of ROMs: $0.

Short answer, supply and demand. It's cool to collect retro games now, TMNT is popular with that same fanbase and HH didn't get as many copies as Turtles in Time. Everyone wants to buy their childhood back so that'll drive prices up.
In general, the market never went back to pre-pandemic prices and I don't see it going down much in the next couple of years.

There's many reasons and even more than say digital movies vs physical movies. Emulation gives you input lag depending on the emulator, and at the end of the day it's emulating the hardware, it's never 100% accurate, many games may have little quirks that can annoy people while other games can have big glitches.
Price of ROMs is $0 because that's piracy, I can also say the same about downloading movies in 4k and saying I don't need BluRays.

There's only so many things I can collect these days, and physical games aren't one of them. Thankfully we have The Cowabunga Collection, and it's setting in my Steam collection along with all the other TMNT games they ever released on there. For the rest there's always emulation.

At least the game (and many others) are preserved in these purchasable collections so they are still easily accessible to everyone.
