I know the first 400 issues of ASM like the back of my hand so to speak, beyond that though, not so much. That is interesting considering she seemed protective of Richard and seems to favor him. I am sure something happened to cause this.

The most recent story with Vanessa is the crossover with Batman which I am not sure is technically cannon.

In Bendis' Daredevil run, Richard tried to have his father killed and left him in a bad way, so Vanessa had him murdered.

It's best not to think too hard about it. Bendis is one of those writers that only pays attention to what he's writing, not the established characterisations by those that came before him.

You are right about that. I would have thought she would allow Richard to kill Wilson because he cant stop the addiction to power and seems to chose that love over that of family. Again, like you say its Bendis The Rules.

I remember the episodes of Spider-Man: The Animated Series that ended in Vanessa leaving Wilson due to how corrupt he'd become.

Yes, that is another source of my thoughts on the matter, if not the main one. I know he turned to crime in order to take down his father and honor his mother. He also had a pride on not directly committing a crime, at least until the climax of 1987's Gang War. Vanessa would likely, if she has not outright, blamed Wilson for Richard's status as a crime boss.

I am also curious what was planned for Vanessa if Daredevil had received a 4th season. Would she have gone from a dark shade of gray enabling The Kingpin to outright taking over the criminal empire? Her enabling of Wilson's criminal activities was a different direction than what lied before, but I was curious to see where it was going.

Advancements on the Kindred plotline

Amazing Spider-Man#66 had just about everything in it today...packing more content in fewer pages than the Giant-Size edition last week

As a bonus, it wasn't so much cleaning up after King's Ransom, it furthered the Kindred plot lines considerably, as Norman not only lets his guard down and ends up freeing Kindred with the help of The Spot, we learn what became of Carlie Cooper, she is being held prisoner alongside Post-OMD Harry Osborn, making his first appearance since Issue 800 back in 2018.

Peter runs into an old friend...Betty Brant is back...and she's pregnant!

Betty swears Peter to secrecy about her pregnancy...noone must know, not even Mary Jane. She then tells him who the father is...it's Ned Leeds! Even more startling, Ned is alive and well after all. And he's not the only character being brought back this issue....the man who killed Peter and Theresa's parents, The Finisher, is Chameleon's cell mate

Epilouge: Kindred wants Doc Ock to recruit the Sinister Six for him, and in return, he'll restore his memories fully to him. He also references the cause of Otto's amnesia…his deal with Mephisto!

Wow, Peter's robot parents got mentioned here. It's a logical choice
for a flashback because Harry was the mastermind behind that. I think by the time this arc is over, Theresa Parker will have a new origin, with her relation to Peter walked back on entirely.

Artwork was a bit fugly (other than Betty, she looks cute) and Peter's looks of surprise and dread are way too comical. Ned looks pretty Sauvé though, and the art does improve towards the end

Giant Size Amazing Spider-Man: Chameleon Conspiracy (updated from earlier now that I've read it and am not reading second-hand spoilers from CBR)

Ah so the big reveal about Teresa is multiple choice, she could be a Chameleon, her parents may be Chameleon agents, Chameleon may have been Nick Fury at some point and duped her into thinking she was a Parker...it's all a little vague, but in the end it's another "it's what you are now that matters" hallmark life lessons. Aw, that's sweet, I HATE SWEET, I NEED PHOTOS, PHOTOS OF SPIDER-MAN

In the meantime, Peter saves Jaime and successfully makes an emergency landing before the casino ship can smash into the city, It turns out most of the villains on the Casino airship are all Chameleon agents, Peter seems to buy that Ned is legit and lets him go home to Betty, but not before we see Ned grin rather mischievously

Kindred is tied to The Chameleon, and requires something from him...a serum, Chameleon says it's always good to do business with an 'Osborn'

Doc Ock and Electro journey to the savage land and recruit Kraven

Sinister War#1

We learn only one whole month has passed since the events of ASM#29. Peter was going to propose to Mary Jane after her film premiere, but the Sinister and Savage gate-crashing put paid to that. Peter finds out about Mysterio and MJ's partnership, MJ gives Peter a burn about working with reformed villains. Peter is confused as to how Doc Ock is back in his old form, and we're reminded of the former Superior Spider-Man's connections to Mephisto. Mysterio tries to tell Peter and MJ what he knows about their deal with the devil, but Spidey dives back into battling the teams.

Ock offers Mysterio a chance to join him, in return, he asks MJ be surrendered to him. Mysterio reluctantly takes MJ with him, and Peter is transported to Kindred's lair, where the remainder of the five six member teams are unleashed on him

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange and Mephisto have a discussion about Peter's soul and the deal he made, Strange argues Peter would never bargain with a devil and demands he undo what he has done. Mephisto tells him extreme circumstances necessitated Peter to make the deal and that his hands are tied, but he's not opposed to playing a game of chance, he and Strange approach a table, Mephisto offers Strange a chance to play...pick a colour, red or black, and asks if he's feeling lucky?

My thoughts:

After a few weeks pondering whether or not Mephisto is truly involved in One More Day, or if it was a Mysterio ruse all along...this issue really puts Marvel's favourite demon in the picture and sets up an interesting side-plot for him and Strange that can possibly go on without Peter's advance knowledge...presumbly so they can have Peter learn more about his unconfessed sins from Kindred...but what other purpose does a gamble with Mephisto serve? Is this the lead-in more to Doctor Stranger's 'death' event this coming fall?

Loved Mary Jane's burn and reminder to Peter that he's being quite hypocritical calling her out on working with criminals when he had such faith in Boomerang, and also his ongoing friendship with Felicia. MJ being catty around Peter can be done wrong so many times, but here it works, and Peter's reaction is more jokey than confrontational. He knows MJ is in the right here.

It feels and reads like a 1990s video game, with Mysterio as the last boss and MJ the damsel (funny considering she said she'd be nothing of the sort to Tarantula)

So there you have it, answers are coming...some other day. Just don't make it some other year.

Amazing Spider-Man this week

I'll try to simplify this

1. The reason Harry's been a tortured soul for his entire life in publication, and the reason Norman is insane, is because Norman struck a deal with Mephisto when Harry was a kid. He exchanged Harry's soul for success in buisness. Mephisto is responsible for the creation of the Green Goblin, the 'deal of the millennium'

2. In the present, Norman journeys to a house stationed in Europe where he finds an artificial intelligence back-up copy of his son's brain waves as well as a lab equipped with two cloning tanks

3. Carlie Cooper and Post-OMD Harry Osborn discover Kindred's catacombs are directly next to Carlie's morgue, Harry finds his own corpse.

3. Kindred tells Mary Jane he's not 'entirely' who he's claimed to have been, and reveals his 'true' identity to her, which shocks her

But not the worst Spider-Man story of all time that everyone was hoping he'd undo. Not to mention it's extremely way to undo it.

So Norman didn't knock up Gwen? That is a relief!!! So...can we get One More Day fixed too or am I asking for too much?

Also, what is this Substacked thing that Spencer and Tyson are leaving the respective job of a lifetime for? It seems like high profile fan-fiction that will not be read but by dedicated readers of a specific individual.

There's at least one issue left, and the Mephisto stuff with Strange isn't quite done yet from what artist Carlos Gomez is indicating with his art previews on Instagram but yeah,, Spencer's final issue is double the length, so it might be able to accommodate two resolutions at once...I think the important thing is that it really should not have taken him three years to tell any of this.

Spencer's jump to Substack has obviously left Marvel short-changed, hence the 'Beyond' saga as a transitional phase headed into the 60th anniversary and issue 900. Bendis recently revealed Marvel tried luring him back and the rumour was he was going to be offered ASM, but he's turned it down to keep working on Jinxworld, indie books, and the few gigs he still has at DC.

Preview for Amazing Spider-Man#875

https://www.cbr.com/amazing-spider-m...ay-connection/

We begin with Harry's death from Spectacular Spider-Man#200, and what happened afterwards from Harry's perspective. Harry awakens to find himself in hell confronted by Mephisto, who reminds him that he passed without telling Peter about his parents or putting into motion the Gwen/Norman deception.

Harry holds Mephisto accountable for his curse over the years, Mephisto calls Harry a fool and that it was never truly about him, he was but a victim of circumstance, and a soul that now hangs in the balance. We cut to Peter in Paris battling Kindred

Is it just me or have the colors looked "washed out" on this book for a longtime? I dropped it a little before Ottley left, so it's not like I'm on top of the book, but every time I look at a preview, the colors strike me as looking lifeless.

I especially notice it with Mark Bagley's pencils. It doesn't flatter them.

Did Marvel decide to cheap out on colorists, now that they are crediting their names on the cover of the book?

Spencer run conclusion

Spoiler:
Those looking forward to more resolution to OMD are going to be disappointed...or...not? Maybe a little happy.

In Las Vegas, Doctor Strange is involved in a high stakes gambit with Mephisto to free the true Harry Osborn's soul from the grasp of the devil, Upon succeeding, Strange asks Mephisto why he has attempted to claim Peter Parker. Mephisto reveals he foresees a future where Peter will defeat him and end his reign over the Earth. As Doctor Strange departs, he reminds Mephisto that the love Peter shares with those closest to him will always enhance his life and make every one of them better. The vision of Mephisto's future changes to show it is Peter and Mary Jane's daughter, not Peter, who ultimately thwarts the devil's reign.

Kindred is revealed to have always been the Stacy Twins, they weren't possessed by Harry at all. Mephisto tortured both Sarah and Gabriel's souls in hell each time they died and corrupted them into being his demonic lackeys. The Harry Osborn A.I is also revealed to be have been controlled by Mephisto all along

BND Harry reveals to Carlie that he was a clone the entire time, he equips himself with the goblin glider and pumpkin bombs and heads off to confront the Kindreds. He helps Peter, Norman, and MJ against them but is eventually killed.

After Mary Jane saves Peter's life, their show of love is enough to defeat the Kindreds and release them from Mephisto's control, they degenerate and die

Mary Jane and Peter make their way home to heal and face the dawn of a new day together as a loving, and unbreakable, couple
