EDIT - I posted the message above right on seeing the thread, but I just watched the trailer.
I don't think this is "Actraiser 3" - it looks like a remaster/remake of the original game!

You don't have a Switch, a PS4, a PC or a phone?

I have a PS4.....

I thought this was a Switch exclusive? The commercial has nintendo branding all over it....

Parasite Eve 3 I think was only ever released on that handheld PS system. I've clamored for a remaster of those three games for years.

Cause it was part of the Nintendo Direct. The big 3 do that all the time when showing off a game that isnt console exclusive.

Oh man....
I might turn my PS4 on now in the next few minutes...
I don't think I've even started it in two years.

I recall Actraiser 2 being criticized for removing the city building scenarios and just consisting of hacking and slashing levels. After all, that was what made the first game unique.

Yeah, I never even bothered with Actraiser 2 when I saw they did that. Total betrayal.

The reason was probably because hack and slash games were extremely popular by 1993–1994, including many arcade games being adapted to the SGEA Mega Drive–Genesis and Super NES. You had titles like Knights of the Round, Legend and Pirates of Dark Water just to mention a few.

Yeah I remember that was a point of contention as well. But I played it eventually anyway and the sword play was cool and the graphics at the time were great.

But for sure, the "Sim City" or "Civilization" elements of the first game combined with the platforming action levels definitely made for an incredibly unique game.

It wasn't just that. You fight the monsters even during city building scenarios, and the game has mode 7. Awesome for 1990.

Dude! LOVE that you mentioned the "Mode 7" lol! That was such a big deal at the time..... The way this game started in the sky spiraling down to the stonehenge thingy, or Bowser in Super Mario World, or some of the stuff done in Super Contra! LOVED IT!

Just watched the playthroughs of Actraiser 1 and 2. Actraiser 1 had a decent ending, but Actraiser 2 had an EMBARASSING end. As soon as the last boss dies, you just get a couple paragraphs of text and then the end credits.

I don't recall the ending to either one, it's been so long. I DO remember the two people praying to you all the time in that sort of makeshift temple that had no graphic space for detail so they put it in a shadowed oval, and I remember the mode 7 outer space effects during the final boss fight were cool....
