having read the opening post of this thread and then skimming through the rest of the comics, I'm left confused. What makes these Rippaverse titles stand-out among the mainstream "woke" comics. What, if you will, makes them anti-woke? I read the review of Isom and it seems like standard comic book superhero fare. I don't say that in a bad way, it's very much Valiant-esque, or even early Image which itself was a rebellion against mainstream comics.

I guess because it's a comic that goes more into story and characters rather than this over-empathizing on race and identity politics. Like the lead character, Isom, is black, but Eric didn't use that as a selling point. I remember the usual Twitter suspects being angry that he used a black main character and focused more on his mission without making the story about 'how rough it is to be a black man in America'.

It's not so much 'anti-woke' as it's just... not woke.

To be honest, since you brought up Image, Spawn was a black man, and that was never the focus of the story. All the hell stuff was.

I've been trying to find the time to read these books, but I did Yaira, Goodyng, and the Rippazine issues 1 and 2.

I also recently bought a new indie book called Super Kaiju Rock n Roller Derby Fun Time Go! from Fun Time Go Inc. I'll check that out when I can.

To be honest, I haven't even read that TMNT 30th anniversary book yet.
