Official episode discussion #7: "Monkey Brains"

Spoiler:
Not a bad episode today that was sort of the Nick version of the OT's "Turtles of the Jungle" without the wackiness of the jungle vines, giant monkey/Donatello, and Shredder's involvement. April was really the star of this episode along with Donatello, since it eventually led to her first encounter with Splinter and agreed upon being a Ninja with the rest of the team. It also exploited more about what happened to April's father. This April really is good in self-defense, as the OT April after the monkey grabbed her would almost surely say "Put me down you big ape", but this April really shows how to calm the monkey.

The flow chart about Don about how to hang out with April was a little silly, but it does note that Don does go to much over his head sometimes and it did cost him for awhile in battle, but in the end he over encountered the "pyschic" powers and forced the scientist to escape presumably to the Kraang. No real development with the Krang and no mention of Shredder and the Foot means that we're due for them to come out with a plan soon. At least unlike the OT where this would just be another "Mad Scientist" episode, there is some connection to the Kraang, and the Turtles still use their weapons, and there were some funny jokes about monkeys.

Overall: 7/10

I got beaten by one minute, so please merge with the other thread!

DAMN It. I missed the Episode! All I saw were Donny fighting some random guy with psychic powers or something. It looked cool but then the Episode ended with Don asking April out again...oh and apparently April will learn the ways of Ninja from Splinter!

This was a pretty good episode. I liked when the turtles were making those monkey jokes.

Jeffrey Combs. He also voices Ratchet in Transformers Prime and Proffeser Hatecraft in Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorperated.

I thought the episode was pretty good! Don's flow chart was hilarious, and Don was pretty cool throughout.

I do think there's a bit of careless plotting in the show though... way better lessons could be taught to youngsters if
Spoiler:
a) the Turtles had been more compassionate and had showed the monkey a spot in the sewers he could live in, as they did with Leatherhead in the past, and b) Don was able to use his greatest strength--his mind--to defeat the villain. For example, thinking so much that he confuses the villain, like by imagining multiple attacks at once so the villain couldn't fight back.

Just my two cents.

Jeffrey Combs. He also voices Rachet in Transformers Prime and Proffeser Hatecraft in Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorperated.
I think he also voiced The Leader in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes

Oh yeah, I forgot he voiced Leader in Avengers.

Anyway, I hope we get to see Dr.Rockwell and Falco again.

Great episode. The lesson of this one was not to overthink things.

I thought it would have been better if

Spoiler:
Donnie defeated the scientist by using his superior brain power rather than turning off his brain altogether. For example, if he'd imagined a bunch of different attacks and confused the scientist.

But apart from that, good episode. Particularly liked the t-phone ringtone.

A really fun Donnie based episode. I got a real kick out of his flow chart on how to hang out with April. I thought they had great chemistry in this episode as opposed to other ones. Monkey Brains' (is that his official mutant name?) eyes really freaked me out when they were bugging out of his skull.

LOL, I just said the exact same thing!

Agreed. The show should emphasize playing to one's strengths, not changing yourself if your way doesn't work the way others want it to.

I'm glad nobody complained about the Turtles laughing at Donnie scene yet.

I know some people won't like that scene.

I didn't like that scene. But whatever, it's not the worst the Turtles have been, and Donnie seemed to take it in stride, plus he got April cuddles for it.

This episode reminded me of a lot of mad scientist episodes of the OT and I really liked it.

It's great to have normal human villains not connected to Shredder in any way.

Ah, they're brothers. Of course they'd poke fun at each other from time to time. It's all good
