This would still have happened, with the arrival of Internet services. What the Coronavirus did was just speeding up the process. But remember how cinemas were right before the pandemic.
People were talking in mobile telephones while the movies were played, disturbing other people. Why would people go to such a place? Yes, you miss the big screen and all that. But does it matter if someone ruins your day? And then you had the commercials and trailers playing before the movie, even if you had just paid an expensive price for the tickets. |

That was my point, people already got used to watching new movies on HBO Max and similar things. Even if things ever get back to normal (which I doubt),that will be a tough habit to break.

Yeah, other than maybe a very big or important movie, I don't think I'll be going to theaters much even when they do open 100%.
Maybe only 1-2 movies a year at most. |

It was going in that direction before the pandemic anyway. Maybe more movies than 1 or 2, but basically if it wasn't an "event" flick then it struggled. It's been that way for years now.

And with the economy now taking damage,a lot of people will write off movies and eating out as luxuries.

20 bucks for a popcorn is already insanity. I can't imagine how it's going to look once the inflation hits. I was buying some new doors at Lowes the other day. Their f'n casing sets were 25 bucks a pop, man. That should be a 15 dollar trim item. |

The "Could be the other way around part" was referencing the directionality of the economy causing damage because of inflation as opposed to causing damage because of lack of business at this time. I must constantly remind myself to be obtusely clear here in this community.

By shutting down and laying everybody off. Possibly with loans that don't need to be paid back if they bring back all their staffs.

Earlier this year, the Arclight Cinemas at the Sherman Oaks Galleria was taken over by Regal Cinemas. Now Landmark Theaters will be taking over a former location in Glenview, Illinois.
https://deadline.com/2021/11/landmar...er-1234882338/ There was a report that the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood would be reopening in the first half of 2022, but it's not actually true. https://deadline.com/2021/12/cineram...er-1234898930/ Last edited by ranger_scout; 12-17-2021 at 09:51 PM. |

AMC Theaters has picked up two more former Arclight Cinemas locations. One in LaJolla, California, and another near Washington D.C. I've always liked AMC Theaters and I am glad that they are continuing to help their chain grow.
