Some of those negative reviews are just because of political ideals and not the actual movies. We've indeed been living in an age of censorship where the reviewers and influencers get to censor by talking bad about a product.

And it's not just one political side, the other is the same thing just a different side of the coin, look at the reason the previous thread was closed.

So apparently Joaquin Phoenix was repeatedly storming off the set throughout shooting... except when he was acting with Robert DeNiro.

Welcome to the Soviet States of America, comrade!!

If art doesn't promote OUR point of view it is worthless and toxic!

"Still—it’s a film about an angry clown who goes on to fight a man who dresses up like a bat, folks. It’s not that heavy."

It's weird because Todd Phillps, the director, knows that saying this will garner one of two reactions -

A. Wow, Joaquin sounds like an asshole
Or
B. Wow, Joaquin is an intense actor. A true artist!

Though, I've been up this films butt since it was announced and neither of those seem like narratives that Todd has been pushing. He stated just the other day that Joaquin wasn't doing any method acting on set, and he appears to be very chummy with Joaquin.

Anyway, I'm probably reading too much into it. Can probably be chalked up to being asked a hundred questions a day and sometimes contradicting yourself.

Phoenix walks out of interview when interviewer asks him if he thinks the movie could inspire real life violence:

Not a great way to defend the film. And it's a valid question, given today's fine crop of idiots.

I understand what you mean, against today's millenial population, but it's an unnecessarily provocative, and probably self-centered question (stirring up **** gets hits).

It's a movie, and the question itself implies the mindset of censorship. If someone can't see a movie without going off and doing something awful then that's an indicator of that person, not the movie.

It's ridiculous. It's absurd.

I agree. But walking away from the question may seem noble in your mind, but it's too easy to misinterpret or come off as petty.

How hard is it to say "mass shooters will use any justification for their crimes?" Defend your art, man.

Oh okay, you aren't defending the concept of proliferating this nonsense, but rather saying that Phoenix could've just told the guy in any way, shape or form that it was ridiculous.

Yes. I might have phrased that wrong. It's a valid question to be asked, simply because it's been asked before. Perhaps I should say "expected" question, not valid. Because anyone with a lick of sense knows it's going to be asked.

By walking away, Phoenix does nothing to address the issue. He's the main lead on a big movie everyone is going to see.

But he's already coming off a bit weird with his walking off set and walking off interviews and whatnot.

from what i read he didn't really walk out, he just went to ask WB PR what to say regarding a controversial question, he came back to finish the interview after consulting PR.

A group of family members and friends of those who died in the 2012 Dark Knight Rises movie theater shooting, have penned a letter to Warner Bros regarding the Joker movie, but it might not be for quite the reason you think...

Oh, and given the name of the thread, here - take another review:

I love these diatribes that invariably begin with, "I'm totally for the freedom of speech, BUT..." or "I'm totally against censorship, BUT..." as they then go on to illustrate the opposite.

Like saying to someone: "No offense, but you're an a**hole." Are you sure you didn't mean to offend? Does the "no offense" part really make it more palatable?
