I mean, they didn't even try with the turtles and Splinter's origin so they're probably like "oh, we f***** up!"

So does the delay mean more seasons of Tales or just a dead year?

Its delay is due to physical animation deadline being missed.

However, I agree I am all for cancelling it. Everyrhing was wrong from throwing characters in the background for roys and no develoment to the ninja trainning from YouTube tutorials to the voices by teenagers to the turtles attending high school to April. I feel bad for Gen Z. The movie failed, but it did what Nick intended, it sold toys. Enough apparently to compensate for lacking tickwt sales.

I think my point was illustrating that the modern way of a studio is to "say anything" to dress up a potential cancellation. And so "delaying due to missed deadlines" fits that model, and my point still stands.

But again, it's just a point. I'm not digging in on that MM2 is dead completely.

Yup. The toyline is, to my surprise, still moving along. I don't know that it's selling like hotcakes or anything, but it's still there. I haven't ordered any cases of any of it basically since the first wave where Splinter was shortpacked.

Just because they’re blaming animation doesn’t mean that’s true. Nickelodeon outsources the animation, so they’re an easy scapegoat if there’s other issues.

It's the tariffs then, costs too much per frame to get it all back into U.S. hands.

Jokes aside, 2D animation yeah, definitely, since that's made frame by frame and they've used outside companies before, but 3D animation might be outsourced less often? After all, they do hire Americans for animation jobs at their CA studio. So what's their real holdup, even if it really is production lagging, what's the reason for it.

https://variety.com/2025/artisans/global/technicolor-bankruptcy-rodeo-fx-mikros-animation-1236349968/

"Rodeo FX – a VFX company whose credits includes “Game of Thrones,” “Stranger Things” and work on Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” (parts 1 and 2) – reports that it acquired Technicolor’s Mikros Animation unit following parent Technicolor’s shut down last month. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. It’s also not immediately clear how many of the former Mikros Animation employees will join the venture.

Paris-headquartered Technicolor was the parent company of VFX giant MPC, commercial VFX studio The Mill, Mikros Animation and Technicolor Gaming. It’s closure affected thousands of artists around the world... Rodeo FX reports that its acquisition of Mikros Animation includes its brand and operations in Paris and Canada, as well as equipment from Technicolor Canada, with an aim of continuing the studio’s activities, which at the time of Technicolor’s Feb. 24 included a new PAW Patrol movie and Paramount Animation’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel."

The kids who grew up with the first movie will be in a different stage in their lives by the time this comes out. 4 years for a kid is like 16 for an adult.
Only the 6 year olds who saw the original movie would still be interested

It's a fair point. Imagine if TMNT (1990) came out in 1990... and then they didn't even bother to come out with TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze until 1994? Imagine how that would have gone. Those theaters would have been graveyards.

I see what you’re saying, but they won’t call it Mutant Mayhem 2. It’ll be TMNT: Subtitle. Kids/the general audience will barely realize it’s a sequel. I watched Fivel Goes West a million times growing and never even knew An American Tail existed until I was a teenager.

Not really...a lot of fans are in their 30s and 40s and would like a 90s Sequel.

There’s been bigger gaps between movies for other franchises.

The popularity or fad for kids shows dies out VERY fast after it comes out. We've seen it with TMNT, Power Rangers, Pokemon, Spongebob, Avatar, etc....and then only the most hardcore fans stick with it for the rest of the franchise.

Usually the shelf life is about 3-4 years, because all the kids become teens in middle school and go through a, "I hate cartoons they're for little kids" phase, and you don't really get over that till later on in High School or college.

So what are the odds of them including ideas from Tales now? I used to think Tales was just glorified filler but now they have time to revise the movie, which means they could take Tales into account.

You're probably right but I wouldn't rule that out.
