Well this is all a nice idea and all, but I find it a bit worrisome that it took the financial success of TLR to make Paramount consider the value in making a TMNT movie where the title characters are not just vehicles for making lame pop culture references…

Nickelodeon is synonymous with being a family friendly brand, Such a movie goes against that, So I think this will be treated as its own thing, Nickelodeon will concentrate more on the upcoming animated series based on Mutant Mayhem, and its sequel.
The Last Ronin will more then likely be promoted on Paramount, But the issue is the branding in itself which is TMNT, There will be those who never read the comics, But only seen the cartoons and such, And these see this thinking about taking the kids, But will be shocked when they find its R rated. This would be either good or bad based on the public perception, The fans who read the comics are in the minority, While the world at large know more about the more family friendly stuff. They probably will just call it The Last Ronin and not add the TMNT in the title. |

I don’t see how any TMNT fans don’t find this news exciting. At the least it’s proof that the doors are opening in terms of what the franchise is allowed to be. |

It does feel like this news is catching people by surprise in a good way. Could be real good for them if they play their cards right.

Even if I'm a mix of interested, excited about something for older fans, and also kinda bummed that most beloved characters are dead in it... I def appreciate that it might catch the ears of the general public and maybe finally bring some wider curiosity to the more mature side of TMNT that the comic started with its nice but still limited niche reach to comic readers. And might esp grab some of those who caught some interest recently via the too-short Fortnite thing.
If the, say, Chibi Turtle mentality era, so to speak, could let up a bit (not necessarily go away, but stop trying to dominate so much) that would be nice. I want my Turtle men back. Last edited by IndigoErth; 04-11-2024 at 09:21 PM. |

I got it...
Film ends. Then an after/mid credits scene retcons the whole thing and it's just Mikey finishing typing the last sentence of his novel, The Last Ronin. ![]() ![]() Brothers are all alive, young adults, and go on to another movie or series. (Oops, meant to edit the other to add that.) |

I think the general idea -- if I were to speculate -- would be to do The Last Ronin as it exists now, whether that's as a legacy sequel to TMNT 1990 or not, and have flashbacks to the "good years." Then if it's successful, to go back and revisit some patch of those good years in subsequent movies. That's the only thing that makes sense. The sequel wouldn't be the next generation, though they could eventually circle around to that many years later.
It's like getting Miller's The Dark Knight Returns before Batman: Year One. And then all the Batman comics (movies in this case) following that. It could work. Especially if they use 1990 as a springboard for built in goodwill, even though doing so would invite comparisons to that movie's slapstick and kiddie elements. If it was me, I'd say do it. I think 1990 could have been better but that's as close to greatness as TMNT has ever gotten on the big stage so why not use that if they have it. And they do. It's the best and -- I think -- only real credible weapon left in the arsenal. Fred Wolf has been objectively strip-mined and fracked at this point and I think even casuals are numb to it at this point, despite the dreams of Nickelodeon at least in the past of that being a forever green thing.

I wish the movie could more focus on current timeline rather than flashback plot. More fighting and action scenes than the comic. In the final battle, Mikey will rips out Karai and Hiroto's black heart, and he will survive and become Splinter.

The Last Ronin sequel series that IDW has done doesn't seem to be getting as much attention as the first. The "videogame" they announced is probably not going to see the light of day, or if it does, it'll be the usual licensed shovelware. I really don't see this movie going forward.
A movie like this wouldn't even come out till when....2027/2028 at the earliest? By then barely anyone would care. |

Cubed really doesn’t want this to happen lol. Buckle-up, y’all. Been saying TLR is only getting bigger and we have seen that come true now from the sequels to the figures and now the movie.
TLR was a DKR-sized tidal wave for the brand and things are changing. |

Well no surprise there, since it isn't the Turtles everyone knows and loves, it's just some OC-like new set no one has any attachment to. They're merely "safe" because few will care what choices they make with those Turtles. (Though I kinda wish the persistent "for a new generation!" bit might have used a new generation of Turtles like them to throw their questionable wrenches at for new Nick stuff at the moment.)

TLR2 has already sold over 140k copies and has a second printing on the way. Also can’t forget that it’s basically two issues in one so the price and revenue are high on each sale. Definitely still a hit.

I really feel like I’ve sat though decades of disappointments to get to this, in terms of TMNT fandom. I remember the disappointment of the 07 movie, the 2014 movie, and even Mutant Mayhem.
It’s just been blow after blow as an older fan. I really am in shock it’s actually happening. I’ve vouched for why I think this is the right idea for a while now but I never expected Viacom to actually wake up. I just think this is the craziest TMNT news since Peter sold. |

It's great to get a movie more geared towards adults but why did it have to be based on something where all the characters we know and love die? That's not something I'm excited to see personally.

I guess because that’s the one that gets general fans of this stuff excited. That’s the book that sold. The concept is sort of a go-to. I’ll agree that it’s a bit redundant conceptually but I still think this is a minor miracle.

![]() I mean, I don't want to look like one of those people who will always just find a reason to complain and it's fantastic for the most part, but I think most of the cast being dead is kinda valid one to not be too crazy about. Already had Reddit idiots ![]() Wanted a more grownup movie for so long, so sue me if I also didn't want my boy dead in it. 2014 made me depressed walking out of there, which wasn't fun. Don't really want to be left feeling kinda glum again post-movie. Last edited by IndigoErth; 04-12-2024 at 11:23 AM. |

The thing is we spend more time in the past with the living turtles than we do in the future where they are dead. And even when they’re dead, they still found a way to work them in.
We’re likely going to see plenty of the other three turtles. They may even structure this differently. I’d hope so because the pacing of the book is a bit off imo. |
