AGAIN with the Shredder’s daughter nonsense?
So I’m sure Rise has taken its lumps and then some around these parts, and I’m not aiming to make that kind of thread.
However! Another creative team once again had to stoop to making Karai shredder’s daughter, and it didn’t even make sense. Why was she Hamato Karai if Oroku Saki was her father? They could have completly skipped this and it would have barely changed the show. There’s that one brief scene where Shredder is tricking her by pulling the father card, but it doesn’t work. Then after they win, you see his freed spirit embracing her for a moment. But that’s it. I thought the season 2 finale was great otherwise though. Felt like a more entertaining/less garbage version for the 4kids Ninja Tribunal finale. |

Rise doesn't seem to understand the franchise much, so why wouldn't they screw that part up, too. Honestly, those connections were so convoluted with Karai now somehow being Yoshi/Splinter's ancestor AND Shredder's daughter, I'm not sure it quite dawned on me that the name didn't even make sense. Either that or I quickly forgot because it was, for me, a pretty forgettable show.
Though I will say that I wish they'd made more use of this Karai as an ancestral spirit. Having her appear off and on throughout the series, guiding the Turtles when Splinter would not, might have given the show more weight and an interesting twist to balance out it trying to be so derpy otherwise. |

I know most people don’t feel this way about her and it’s just my own pet peeve, but like all the familiar touchstones of TMNT they decided to turn on their head or throw away completely and they keep that crap? Quote:

The simple answer to why they did this is because it was the case in the 2003 show and the 2012 show. To many people, even people who work on TMNT officially, the 2003 version of Karai might as well be the original version of the character because they are too lazy to read, and so almost all future versions of her will be depicted as his daughter. I think the only exceptions are the IDW series, in which she is a descendant of him an unknown number of generations, and the PD movies in which she's just some henchwoman with no clear relationship to him. The 2007 movie doesn't say she is related to him, but I suspect that would have been the case if it had gotten any sequels.

Her being his unrelated underling is just as bad, if not worse than her being his daughter.

Hah, jokes on you, I watched it, all of it, when it was fresh on cable. Still felt that way.
