My mom's sweet potato casserole. It's almost a dessert instead of a side. Mashed sweet potatoes, cinnamon, other spices, a pecan brown sugar topping....AWESOME. Great with ham.

My favorite is definitely my grandma's stuffing, the recipe is like none I've ever seen anywhere else.

Second place would be mac & cheese, then mashed potatoes swimming in gravy

For dessert I'm partial to cobblers or something interesting like chocolate bourbon pecan pie

Mashed potatoes, hands down.

Though it was kind of weird and onion-y tonight?

I think I make a pretty good version of it of my own.

For me it's all about those awesome deviled eggs. Though hubby's basil corn comes in a close second. And the desserts.... I will be experimenting this weekend for our dinner at home (Mr D came home from his treatment Tuesday with an 18 lb turkey dinner with all the trimmings!) with a new recipe. It is a strawberry-banana cheesecake recipe I found in a dessert recipe magazine a couple of months ago. It is actually banana pudding cheesecake but I am mixing in strawberries and a bit of strawberry-banana juice to the filling for my own twist. I will repirt back on how it turns out!

For us chestnuts are a must. My favorite parts have always been the chestnuts and the stuffing it was included in, cooked in the pan with the turkey so it just sucks up all that fat, juices and flavor and cooks into it real good. I'm not really much of a fan of stuffing as is, too mushy for my taste, but I love the crunchy and chewy portions from that pan. Addicted enough to annoy people at stealing too much of it and the chestnuts from the leftovers. Not cooked it like that in the last couple of years though...Got food ordered instead. Hopefully we will again someday.

To pick an actual dish, probably the mashed potatoes and gravy. (Which I just finished some of and gonna go grab some of the leftover chestnuts, albeit sans stuffing this year.)

There needs to be a Deviled Eggs option in the poll.

But yeah, turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, rolls, and corn. Pumpkin and pecan pie is also a must have.

That is how Thanksgiving is done at our house.

I'm allegedly the only person on the planet who hates stuffing/dressing.

Huh, are deviled eggs really that much a part of Thanksgiving? I've never seen that. May I ask what region of the country you all live in?

What's neat is there are sooo many different kinds, you probably could find a version you'd like.

I don't like it, either. Stuffing has a really gross texture.

We have them at most every holiday meal. For as long as anyone can remember. But only in my Southern relatives’ homes. My northern relatives don’t do deviled eggs at all.

Yeah, we love them, but I admit that up this way that does sound like an odd (but not necessarily unwelcome) inclusion to this particular holiday. More of a spring/summery thing.

As odd as my mom's friend who was trying (and failed) to invite herself (along with her daughter, son-in-law and their two toddlers and young infant) to our place and suggesting she'd bring lasagna. What... (Yeah, no thanks on any of that or forced company.)

I made this earlier- the new cheesecake recipe I mentioned wanting to try. It looks delish!

Oh, a very traditional cheesecake! You don't tend to see it with fruit on top like that these days.

Well not exactly "traditional"- I used some strawberry-banana juice (V8 Fusion) in the filling mix. Came out with a pudding-like flavor and I put vanilla wafers and banana slices on the bottom and more wafers around the border.

Side-note: I am typing this while tethered to my new phone that Mr D got me for my birthday. It was actually delivered last Friday, and he gave it to me early because I had complained about my old one giving me issues when trying to type on the keyboard. I finally activated it today since I was out of high-speed on my other one. This one works much faster even though I haven't added more high-speed air-time yet! And it takes better pics, too! (I used it to take the pic of the cheesecake.)
