He did?!

Yeah, I’m not a fan of Ciro either. He’s one of those…you know…”male feminists”.

Is he? He got a lot of flak for coming on my TMNT podcast and -- in the eyes of some, not me -- saying the opposite. He even asked me to remove it in light of the blowback.

If I recall correctly, I saw a selfie of his with a pussyhat on his head. So either he was mocking the Women’s March or he was virtue-signaling. Unless I’ve mistaken him with another member of the 2012 TMNT staff.

All I know is that he said something about being careful about writing April's psychic powers, because he thinks girls with superpowers tend to get overpowered. Which always struck me as weird because the idea of April having superpowers started with his show, it was an idea he chose to implement rather than something that was expected of the character by default. He could just have had a version of April who was Baxter's intern and that could be the reason she came into contact with the Turtles, but instead he chose to make her a human-utrom hybrid who was the key to terraforming earth into a new base for the Kraang, which is weird and even if it was necessary (which it wasn't because of how the plot was clearly mostly made up on the fly) could have been the role of a brand new character.

I don't think I ever interacted with the guy - Andrew, that link a few posts back on Page 2 that supposedly shows all his posts doesn't produce anything.

I mean TO BE FAIR, if I were One Of Them I wouldn't wanna hang around here either. That's just asking for it.

For example, I don't post on wrestling forums, except the one thread here in the TV section (and we see how THAT has gone in the past, with stupid fanboy marks trying to give ME the what-for when I'm actually IN THE BUSINESS, but y'know... F*cking Marks). And a big reason I don't, is because when I read a bit of news about something going on in wrestling, and THEN I read the asinine, ignorant, piss-boiling stupid, purely idiotic, totally wrong, provably-ass-backwards, whiny, totally wrong and very f*cking bad takes wrestling fans have on "my business"... If I were to interact with them AT ALL, it would only ever be me calling them a bunch of stupid, know-nothing trailer trash retards, because I wouldn't be able to contain my contempt for them, what with the f*cking STUPID sh*t they say, WITH CONVICTION, as if they actually know what they're talking about when NO, they 10000% do NOT know what they're talking about. At All.

SO YEAH, based on that I don't actually understand why any TMNT Staff would even come here, other than for advertising/promotional "drop a bit of news and then leave" sh*t. "I just wanna be among the fans!" WHY would you do that? Fans are morons.

That is such a bad and stupid show.

I'm fine that people like it but it's one of those things where I sincerely don't understand HOW anyone likes it.

Hm. Well, just go to his name under Members and click on "previous posts." There's a grand total of 13 and on a cursory glance it doesn't look like he was too freaked out.

All I remember hearing was that he said something like "You guys complain about EVERYTHING", or something, and then left.

I came back on late that day and there were tons of people going "THANKS a LOT, CUBED!" and a bunch of marks being pissed at Cubed for "scaring Ciro off" and how now they couldn't hump his leg anymore. "We had one of the showrunners here right in front of us and you HAD to ruin it!"

Like, who gives a sh*t? It's not like they offended and spooked an Actual Famous Person. Also, wasn't it over something dumb, like people were nitpicky about the Turtles having three toes, or some dumb sh*t? And he just got sick of the whining and left in a huff?

I wasn't here for the details, I just remember thinking it was hilarious everyone suddenly wanted to boil Cubed in oil over something so innocuous.

For whatever it's worth, *I* may very well be far too harsh in how I speak To and OF some of these people, but a lot of the people here are way too kissy-kissy, too. "Ermagerrrrd they worked on Ninjuh Tuhtles." If I had that on my resume I'd never, ever tell anyone, but that's me.

Well, yeah. The fans have largely been nuts since even when I was a kid. Without getting into the really strange cliques of grandmas all over the place writing and slinging slash fiction/art with the TMNT and fetishizing Mary Sues having the TMNT's babies when I was navigating the fandom at like 14, the whole sort of god-like worship of voice actors in the fandom has always baffled me. If you're an aspiring voice actor or already are in the field, OK, I get it. Otherwise... eh. If we're talking guys or gals who can disguise their voice and do like 12 distinctly different voices, OK, that's a real talent. If it's just rolling someone with a cup of coffee in front of a mic who does like 1 or 2 or a variation of their normal speaking voice... that's kind of meh to me. I respect the craft but I don't get the elevation I've seen. What gets me is the false equivalence of voice actors to actual actors playing a part in a movie or TV show. Like, "Kevin Conroy is my favorite Batman." What? The voice and inflection is an important Batman factor, but far from the biggest or most indicative of the overall performance. Of that or any role. Just pulling one out of the hat here, but imagine "Random Joe" just voice acting Oscar Schindler. Without having to emote or act -- physically -- in any scene. That'd be the same as what Liam Neeson did in the movie, or even remotely close to it, just because they lent their voice? That seems insane to me.

The show does indeed have many serious problems, not nearly as many as The Next Mutation or the Fred Wolf show, but they are really evident. While I would say I'm in the "I like it for subjective reasons" camp, that wouldn't really be true because the glaring problems genuinely annoyed me. As far as I can tell, the main reasons people like it are these:
  1. There are hints of a much better show (that don't really amount to anything, interesting ideas are more often than not left abandoned).
  2. There are some attempts at serious drama (which are often undermined by how shallow they are or how little they matter).
  3. It fits into the rough pop culture perception of TMNT better than most of Nickelodeon's attempts (which was already not the best way TMNT could have been perceived by pop culture).
  4. It has a lot of old TMNT characters popping up (though in many cases barely recognisable and I wouldn't exactly say Muckman was a character anyone should have been interested in seeing the return of, who sadly was one of the most faithfully recreated characters...).
  5. Four pointless crossover episodes with the Fred Wolf cartoon (and I mean really, one wasn't enough?).

Yeah, that all makes sense, for sure. I just really did not like the show As Is and apparently I quit WAY before any of the REALLY serious stuff started going bad. Like, I never saw ANY of the FW cross-overs or even the final episode to this day because before Season 1 ended I was already just plain done. I'd always go a few months, watch a random episode or two in reruns and be like, "Oh, yeah, THIS is exactly why I stopped watching it."

I mean I might get the complete series set, and I'd watch it over Rise. But that's like saying I'd rather take an 8-second ass-to-mouth inhale of Melissa McCarthy's Taco Bell fart instead of letting someone inject the AIDS virus directly into both of my testicles without anesthetic while I was still wide awake.

I run into chicks in Real Life all the time who are unrepentant about wanting to f*ck a Ninja Turtle. I am convinced it's 100% of the reason this franchise has any female fans to begin with.

Like, maybe they also like other things about it, too, but I'm convinced a big reason they got and remain invested is more salacious than not.

No shade or anything, I'm the last one to throw shade about wanting to f*ck cartoon characters. Just sayin', it's a thing I notice and encounter often. More than I ever thought I would.

Right? I've never encountered this in any other fandom. Probably it exists in anime type fandoms, I would imagine, but I have no idea.

Also, I notice a lot of these ladies have covered their tracks and erased the "evidence" as the years passed into more sensitive times. If I had a "I want to cancel a person" bone in my body (I don't) I could expose a lot of them. But I know they were just having fun and sharing stuff with like minded people and more power to them. All I want to say is "weird!"

No, no, it's in other things too.

I have never watched Gargoyles, for example, but 100% of girls I know who do watch it are super-horny for at least one of them and they don't even attempt to hide it, it'll be one of the first two or three things they mention about why they watch the show.

Also, I'm guessing you've never met the Sonic Fandom.

I'm debating whether or not I want to explain why I love the 2012 series. On the one hand it is my favorite Turtles cartoon and it's fun to talk about, but on the other hand I'm not sure anyone actually cares either way.

I loved it for the foundational writing and comedy of the whole thing. And the stylistic elements that it got right, it got really right. And the stuff that was funny was pretty damn funny.

But on the other hand I hated, absolutely hated SO many of the mutant designs. The show has an overall "gross monster" tone that I felt took too much from the Playmates style toys instead of the cleaner designs of the Fred Wolf cartoon. Fred Wolf felt like "Mutants". Nicktoons felt like "monsters".

It wasn't a perfect show, but in general it had a baseline that usually hit at "entertaining" at the bare minimum.

Oh wow, it seems you find and interview people that actually work on several TMNT projects. I wouldn't mind being a guest star or something. I'm sure I'd have questions for the next person you get.
