Black Mask is a homosexual in this movie? This is the first time I’m hearing this.

Do you even know who Black Mask is, homie? He's not in the 90's cartoon, and you say you don't read comics.

He was in the Batman Arkham videogame, City and Origin. Also in The Batman cartoon from 2003 which I saw as a teenager.
I wonder why Black Mask was never in B:TAS. |

According to wiki Black Mask debuted in 1985 so yeah he pre-dates the show. Fun fact Bane debuted in the comics at the same time the cartoon was airing and they managed to include him.

Yeah, I remember him in some pre-Knightfall stuff. He was pretty different from how they made him later on... though I suspect no version of him is going to bear any resemblance with whatever McGregor is being asked to do.

Although I suspect they're going to lean into the gimp angle the New 52 went with. He even had a gimp mask instead of a skull mask for awhile. Yippee.

I'm fine with Harley being in the birds of prey even if it's a new line up, i can overlook that yeah she has no real powers except being popular. The movie looks awful though, Suicide Squad looked good and turned out great, all this has is Harley going for it but at the very least suicide squad had more interestin characters/actors that made you push through the movie, here all I see is harley.

WB obviously never heard that there's such a thing as too much birthday cake.
I imagine that they made a killing at Hot Topic on Harley merch when Squad came out, which is pretty much why this thing is happening and going the way it's going. That's how WB operates; something gets a little bit of positive buzz, they overkill it and cram it down everyone's throats until they're sick of it. It's all they know how to do. --------------- Yeah, Black Mask has been around since the 80s (I actually have his first appearance issue) but he wasn't a heavy hitter until way later on. He was like a "forgotten villain" until War Games, at which point his first appearance book caught fire since he was suddenly like, the main non-Joker Batman villain.

He debuted in a three part Batman/Detective Comics x-over created by Douge Moench. He was used like most villains in Batman#400's "Resurrection Night" the following year. After that he disappeared until Doug used him for a second story just before the longwidening Kngihtfall storyline in 1993, seven years later and nearly a decade after his last significant appearance. So if his creator did not bring him out of obscurity and use him not once but twice more ( he appeared in #518/519 too also by Moench) Black Mask would have been forgotten after Batman#400.
Though the above is correct Black Mask was minor until he rose to prominence in War Games temporarily taking over the Gotham Underworld and becoming a scrooge to Spoiler and Catwoman. This is where his mask was made into a black version of The Red Skull instead of the slick ebony mask that he work. This also gave him enough attention to give us my favorite episode of The Batman.

Birds of Prey: Ewan McGregor Says Black Mask is the Perfect Villain for "The Time of Trump"
The first trailer for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) introduced audiences to its ragtag ensemble of characters earlier this month -- including Roman Sionis/Black Mask (Ewan McGregor). As one of the most ruthless crime lords to haunt Gotham City, Sionis is expected to present quite a threat for the Birds of Prey, and it sounds like his character will have some interesting nuance. In a recent interview with Men's Journal, McGregor spoke about his role as Sionis, who he describes as the perfect villain for “the Time of Trump.” "[He is] an absolute narcissist,” McGregor explained, “spoiled in his upbringing to the point of having no contact with what life or people are about, who has a skin this thin and wants nothing more than to be the center of attention.” According to Chris Messina, who co-stars as Sionis' right-hand man, Victor Zsasz, this set-up succeeds because of how dynamic of a performance McGregor gives. “He’s an incredible villain because he’s so likable and he’s so seducing,” Messina revealed. “You’re like, I like him, he’s cute, it’s fun being in his world. And then he’ll bite your leg off. He has these incredible turns of violence, this ferocious quality. There are a couple of moments in the movie where he rages that he really went there, and you could hear a pin drop. Then he would turn on a dime and then go back to the charm of the character.” McGregor also addressed a theory surrounding his and Messina's characters, which is that the pair will ultimately be romantically involved with each other. “I don’t want to give anything away, but that’s a fun theory," McGregor revealed. "We definitely have a very interesting bond.” https://comicbook.com/dc/2019/10/25/...ewan-mcgregor/

Zsasz was in Batman Begins. He was also a Boss Encounter in the video game adaptation (which is actually pretty good). So while it was rather small, it definitely counts as his film debut.

I'unno about all that. Pretty nitpicky. I mean, you have a point, BUT, they definitely still count.
Zsasz was mentioned by his full name, had the tally marks, and brandished a knife. No, he wasn't wearing a tuxedo and top hat, but that wouldn't have played well in the Nolan-verse. Clothing and beard aside it was as accurate as it needed to be, and those thing are superficial. And again, he had a sizeable appearance in the video game, so I really can't argue that this appearance of Szasz should be dismissed. They obviously spent a lot of time on him. Still an extended cameo, sure, but I'd argue that it definitely still counts. Bane... yeah, they always get his personality wrong, but even most comic book writers do, anymore. I think "criminal mastermind" Bane is ultimately going to be the outlier, even though that's what he was initially created to be. Most writers can't think past, "Big Guy = Dumb Muscle", so while I agree that's wrong, in the Big Picture we're going to be outvoted on that. For what it's worth, the Jeep Swenson version of Bane WAS as visually-accurate as we're ever going to get, even though the portrayal was terrible, and the version in DKR was close enough in personality and mannerisms. They're both "off" but it's silly to say they don't count. I'd go so far as to say we are NEVER going to see an accurate live-action Bane, because most people only know him from the cartoons, which didn't use him well on account of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm actively hating the character. But I would never say those two film appearances "don't count" just because they're not perfect. They absolutely count, they just should have been better. I mean, consider Zod in Superman II. That's... that's NOT Zod, at all. Absolutely NO version of Zod in the comics has ever looked or acted like the one played by Terrance Stamp (or even Michael Shannon, for that matter). I mean yeah, in more recent years they've drawn him with a beard, but he still doesn't go around all poncy demanding people "Kneel!" and all that, never has. Historically, he's pretty much just been drawn to resemble a bald M. Bison. But Stamp's version of Zod is one of the most memorable and iconic villains in ALL of film; even though I have huge, HUGE problems with Superman II as a film, Stamp as Zod is inarguably one of the best parts. But he didn't look like "Zod", didn't act like "Zod", and neither did Michael Shannon. Both did a great job, though. Is it right or fair to say, "Well, we still haven't seen Zod in a movie", based on that? I don't think so. I mean, I totally hear you. I'm famously as purist as it gets. But even I just have to shrug and say "Eh, close enough," sometimes. Therefore, I definitely count the prior film appearances of Zsasz and Bane, even though they maybe could have been better. -------------------------------- Although, Jesus... HOW incredible would a movie based on the 4-issue "The Last Arkham" storyline be? I know you know the one I mean. That movie writes itself. It might have to be R for violence and "disturbing imagery" but holy sh*t, I honestly can't think of any singular comic book arc that better lends itself to a Batman film. You'd even get to have the big "Batman vs. Everyone" battle royale 2/3s of the way through, plus an epic detective story. It's got everything. If I had $200 million to make a Batman movie, that's the one I'd make, no question.
