Who knows, maybe another 10 years from now we'll get full HD remakes for the games from ground up. The maps are pretty small in this game so it shouldn't take too much work and the character models can be re-used between games in HD development. Even remaking these games up to PS3-era graphics would be fine with me as GTA V debuted on it.

Expect MTX up the wazoo, bunch of 20 Gigabyte patches and 24/7 online.
Oh, wait, you have it all in modern games.

Crap, I don't even know what kind of dumb nonsense they can pull off to rob people of their money even more.

Guys, help! I googled this and didn't get a clear answer. I'm to the point where James Woods is harassing me on my cell phone about learning to fly. I am able to pass about 4 or 5 of the missions in the training thing, but am getting stuck around the "fly a circle and then land" one.

Can I boost my flying skill in some other way enough to continue the story? What's the sufficient %?

After playing a lot of GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition and a bit of GTA5, you know what suddenly feels pretty clunky from a gameplay standpoint? GTA 4. Just played through a bunch of missions last night and it really sucks not having the weapon wheel. Also, all the cars in GTA 4 strangely behave like little slow-moving semi-trucks. Like moving around Lara Croft in an old Tomb Raider game or something. Even the fast cars are very strange to maneuver.

I think there's just some weird engine/tire mechanics there, just in GTA 4. Like, even if I'm driving a minivan in it, pedal to the metal on a straight road I should be able to go faster than what appears to be 15 MPH.

Help! In San Andreas, I'm stuck. I'm at the part where you're in the fake Vegas part of San Andreas, and the mission is you need to win the affections of the BDSM woman who has a key you need to advance for a bigger mission. I do that after a long time, she leaves the key for me in her place, and I leave. Now there's nowhere on the map for me to go for a mission. Just a lot of "S"es on the map, which are training missions. Like, learn how to do these tricks with your bike, plane, etc.. What am I supposed to do, or is this a bug?

It's this one:

But there is no signal on the map for me to go to the casino to bring the key.

I was very happy when this collection was first announced.

...and even more disappointed I was that it turned out to be garbage. I asked some people who've bought it and played it and they say it's even worse than you'd expect.

A real major bummer. Modern day remasters of GTA Vice City and San Andreas were something many people had been looking for for a long time and yet Rockstar made a very half-assed effort. As soon as I saw what the remastered graphics were going to look like I had a feel it was gonna bomb.

Well, that's some money saved, at least...

Everything I've seen says the GTA Trilogy Definitige Edition did gangbusters sales wise. Bug-wise and otherwise... seems that they fixed the bugs, several patches in? Or did they? Beyond that, though, what else was really expected? Adding the GTA 5 weapon selector wheel (which originated -- I think -- in Secret of Mana, which came up in a recent RPG thread) was pretty big, alone.

I have no idea how well it sold. No idea if they fixed the bugs either.

I think people expected the games to look better than what they did in 2002-2004. Vice City and San Andreas look very old by now. I played VC for the first time in 2014 on Steam, and while I could see the charm of it, it looked beyond dated at that point. Meanwhile a lot of GameCube games from the same time still look fine today.

So I guess people wanted those 3 GTA games to be redone with modern day graphics or at least something better than they ended up looking?

Many times people refer to "graphics" when what they more accurately want to be updated is the animation.

For the purposes of "remakes" and "remasters" such as this, the graphics are essentially just a better-looking skin. But the basic animation and movement of the characters would need to be redone from the ground up in order for it to really make a ton of difference. Updating the graphics is literally just a better coat of paint, but the "skeleton" and movement animations are usually still archaic. All of those things would need to be redone for it not to look weird.

As for the bugs, I Googled around a little bit and it seems like they've had several large patches since November, including a huge one in early March, which purported to fix most/all of the problems... but then an article from late-March claims that there are still tons of game-breaking bugs and glitches that are unique to this version of the games and still cripple the experience for many people. There are plenty of smaller, inconsequential things, too, but crashing seems to be a persistent problem for many people. In Vice City, for example, enemies can shoot the player through the walls, which would make the game pretty unplayable in a lot of the missions. GTA 3 is apparently the most stable but people are still having tons of issues with Vice City and San Andreas.

"Hooray, we made the games shinier and more modern-looking, and all we needed to do is make the games themselves a lot more broken and less fun to actually play!"

There is only One Type of gamer this thing was made for, or at least, they're the only type who'd find such a mess to be the least bit tolerable.

I wanted to get it, too; maybe by next year it'll actually be worth it.

Pretty much yeah. Really half-assed effort by Rockstar.

What was even the last GTA game everyone loved? San Andreas? Because I feel like people have been disappointed with the series since GTA IV.

GTA V has been around for a while now and is available on a lot of different platforms. And it seems like people no longer care about it anymore.
