I know it's probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm actually kinda relieved about the delay. Mostly cuz there's just been so many releases lately and I ordered this wave from BBTS, so I'll get charged for it when it's released. I can only afford to spend so much at a time.
That being said... huh, it's almost the end of March and still no news about the next wave (the first 2003 one), which was supposedly going to be revealed in February.

Saw this on Gary's most recent video. No idea if it's true or not, but I was always under the impression that it was the designers rather than Flynn making the suspect figure choices.

I 100% believe this and agree with teemu. Since my first discovery of Super7 back in like 2018/2019 ... I always thought that Flynn was immensely arrogant when it came to his diversion and dancing around bad decisions. Sure nice guy, yeah yeah ... but so many of the bizarre decision making decisions for these lines feel like someone that isn't as in touch with certain fan bases as he may think. The thought of "No one else is making these licenses, you'll buy them and like it" ... feels like it's spoken directly to Thundercats and Silverhawks fans, haha. Truthfully, those two were before my time even being born in 1987 ... and I never had an interest in them but still! We're now two months from whenever this supposed 2003 series set of figures were to be revealed ... and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they wait till SDCC or at all. Something seems off there at Super7 moreso these days. Look at how fast they announced the Jakks Pacific line of Simpsons figures. I thought maybe one of the reasons dropped the ball with Simpsons was that the fanbase just wasn't there as much ... no, the model that seemed to work for MOTU, Thundercats, and TMNT wasn't there for random ass characters decisions for Simpsons and at that price point. Everyone seems jazzed about the Jakks figures from what I've seen and doing so while laughing at Super7. Also for as beloved/controversial as the Wingnut figure was ... NO ONE outside of a few diehards seems to be covering this most recent wave at a review/YouTube level. Like I can't find anything, and I never get recommended anything. I wonder how much that bleeds into how sales are doing. Everyone just seems frustrated with Super7 and clearly, something had to change. Yeah, we get it Brian ... no one made the figures you wanted growing up, so now you are ... sadly, the rallying cry may have been what could do them in as a business.

My brain has a hard time imagining 2K3 sculpts. I’m very curious to see what they came up with.

You know, truthfully while some of these are new to me ... that's still a pretty small amount compared to what I'm used to seeing when filtering recently uploaded and checking stuff out. Maybe it's also my algorithm too, but some of those channels I've definitely seen as the only ones uploading full wave reviews compared to other channels. Might have to check some of these out though!
Guys like Toy Bro are always reviewing Super7 so there's no surprise there, and I've tried blocking that Kyle dude's content cause I'm not a fan of his channel and his stuff always feels like content farming to me cause he uploads way too much, haha. Loved Gary's review though! Also, this made me LOL at the 1:45 mark.

Gary's such an unsung hero. Dude puts so much info in his reviews and really tries to figure out where every accessory comes from. I know his format's not for everyone, but I was glad to see him get a shout out on Nostalgia Unboxed (another guy I think has completely given up on Super7).

Not surprised about Usagi, and I'm guessing Panda Khan is also off limits.
TMNT 2k3 Ultimates should be revealed by "end of April." |

I really could have sworn Brian said they had the rights to do Usagi in some other interview.
I dunno. I feel like I'd like to just get rid of the Super7 stuff since it seems pretty certain they're never going to finish it (at least in regards to that original vision), but it's really not even worth enough to bother selling it. I really would have liked for them to have finished at least those first two waves. |

He did say he had the rights, but that was before the Usagi cartoon, and NECA doing all their stuff. I guess things change.
I really wanted a Super7 update of the Playmates Usagi... but if I had to choose, I'd prefer the more comic-accurate stuff that NECA are doing (and where it sounds like they might be taking it). Hopefully things change again further down the road, and Super7 can give us Usagi. Last edited by Otter; 04-09-2024 at 05:10 PM. |

Speaking of not holding my breath... Eh, honestly, with how long Super7 takes to get anything out, I can easily see them having had the license, not use it, and then lose it.

Man, I had to pause the interview from laughing when Brian said that pre-orders are down across the board 75%. What a load of bull ... I don't really buy that whatsoever. Sure, maybe preorders for Super7 are down but I think that's going to be the nature of the beast since they got into partnerships with retailers at MSRP and now everyone isn't as rapid to give Super7 their money right away when delays only increase and the QC is questionable.
I think there's still a lot of truth to that Reddit post, but how much of it will remain to be seen. I agree with Tuxedo above in that I'm not holding my breath for the next TMNT wave to be announced this month ... he gave himself an out by saying "late April." And even then, I wonder how they plan on trying to pull off the 2003 looks.

Having had time to watch the whole thing now... I really don't understand how to reconcile Brian's claim that pre-orders are down 75%, they had to cancel the G.I. Joe repaint wave, they lost the license with Disney, but also... things are selling better than they ever have.
I know he can't (without losing access), but Veebs should have pressed him on that dichotomy. |
