I know the first 400 issues of ASM like the back of my hand so to speak, beyond that though, not so much. That is interesting considering she seemed protective of Richard and seems to favor him. I am sure something happened to cause this.

The most recent story with Vanessa is the crossover with Batman which I am not sure is technically cannon.

In Bendis' Daredevil run, Richard tried to have his father killed and left him in a bad way, so Vanessa had him murdered.

It's best not to think too hard about it. Bendis is one of those writers that only pays attention to what he's writing, not the established characterisations by those that came before him.

You are right about that. I would have thought she would allow Richard to kill Wilson because he cant stop the addiction to power and seems to chose that love over that of family. Again, like you say its Bendis The Rules.

I remember the episodes of Spider-Man: The Animated Series that ended in Vanessa leaving Wilson due to how corrupt he'd become.

Yes, that is another source of my thoughts on the matter, if not the main one. I know he turned to crime in order to take down his father and honor his mother. He also had a pride on not directly committing a crime, at least until the climax of 1987's Gang War. Vanessa would likely, if she has not outright, blamed Wilson for Richard's status as a crime boss.

I am also curious what was planned for Vanessa if Daredevil had received a 4th season. Would she have gone from a dark shade of gray enabling The Kingpin to outright taking over the criminal empire? Her enabling of Wilson's criminal activities was a different direction than what lied before, but I was curious to see where it was going.

Advancements on the Kindred plotline

Amazing Spider-Man#66 had just about everything in it today...packing more content in fewer pages than the Giant-Size edition last week

As a bonus, it wasn't so much cleaning up after King's Ransom, it furthered the Kindred plot lines considerably, as Norman not only lets his guard down and ends up freeing Kindred with the help of The Spot, we learn what became of Carlie Cooper, she is being held prisoner alongside Post-OMD Harry Osborn, making his first appearance since Issue 800 back in 2018.

Peter runs into an old friend...Betty Brant is back...and she's pregnant!

Betty swears Peter to secrecy about her pregnancy...noone must know, not even Mary Jane. She then tells him who the father is...it's Ned Leeds! Even more startling, Ned is alive and well after all. And he's not the only character being brought back this issue....the man who killed Peter and Theresa's parents, The Finisher, is Chameleon's cell mate

Epilouge: Kindred wants Doc Ock to recruit the Sinister Six for him, and in return, he'll restore his memories fully to him. He also references the cause of Otto's amnesia…his deal with Mephisto!

Wow, Peter's robot parents got mentioned here. It's a logical choice
for a flashback because Harry was the mastermind behind that. I think by the time this arc is over, Theresa Parker will have a new origin, with her relation to Peter walked back on entirely.

Artwork was a bit fugly (other than Betty, she looks cute) and Peter's looks of surprise and dread are way too comical. Ned looks pretty Sauvé though, and the art does improve towards the end

Giant Size Amazing Spider-Man: Chameleon Conspiracy (updated from earlier now that I've read it and am not reading second-hand spoilers from CBR)

Ah so the big reveal about Teresa is multiple choice, she could be a Chameleon, her parents may be Chameleon agents, Chameleon may have been Nick Fury at some point and duped her into thinking she was a Parker...it's all a little vague, but in the end it's another "it's what you are now that matters" hallmark life lessons. Aw, that's sweet, I HATE SWEET, I NEED PHOTOS, PHOTOS OF SPIDER-MAN

In the meantime, Peter saves Jaime and successfully makes an emergency landing before the casino ship can smash into the city, It turns out most of the villains on the Casino airship are all Chameleon agents, Peter seems to buy that Ned is legit and lets him go home to Betty, but not before we see Ned grin rather mischievously

Kindred is tied to The Chameleon, and requires something from him...a serum, Chameleon says it's always good to do business with an 'Osborn'

Doc Ock and Electro journey to the savage land and recruit Kraven

Sinister War#1

We learn only one whole month has passed since the events of ASM#29. Peter was going to propose to Mary Jane after her film premiere, but the Sinister and Savage gate-crashing put paid to that. Peter finds out about Mysterio and MJ's partnership, MJ gives Peter a burn about working with reformed villains. Peter is confused as to how Doc Ock is back in his old form, and we're reminded of the former Superior Spider-Man's connections to Mephisto. Mysterio tries to tell Peter and MJ what he knows about their deal with the devil, but Spidey dives back into battling the teams.

Ock offers Mysterio a chance to join him, in return, he asks MJ be surrendered to him. Mysterio reluctantly takes MJ with him, and Peter is transported to Kindred's lair, where the remainder of the five six member teams are unleashed on him

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange and Mephisto have a discussion about Peter's soul and the deal he made, Strange argues Peter would never bargain with a devil and demands he undo what he has done. Mephisto tells him extreme circumstances necessitated Peter to make the deal and that his hands are tied, but he's not opposed to playing a game of chance, he and Strange approach a table, Mephisto offers Strange a chance to play...pick a colour, red or black, and asks if he's feeling lucky?

My thoughts:

After a few weeks pondering whether or not Mephisto is truly involved in One More Day, or if it was a Mysterio ruse all along...this issue really puts Marvel's favourite demon in the picture and sets up an interesting side-plot for him and Strange that can possibly go on without Peter's advance knowledge...presumbly so they can have Peter learn more about his unconfessed sins from Kindred...but what other purpose does a gamble with Mephisto serve? Is this the lead-in more to Doctor Stranger's 'death' event this coming fall?

Loved Mary Jane's burn and reminder to Peter that he's being quite hypocritical calling her out on working with criminals when he had such faith in Boomerang, and also his ongoing friendship with Felicia. MJ being catty around Peter can be done wrong so many times, but here it works, and Peter's reaction is more jokey than confrontational. He knows MJ is in the right here.

It feels and reads like a 1990s video game, with Mysterio as the last boss and MJ the damsel (funny considering she said she'd be nothing of the sort to Tarantula)

So there you have it, answers are coming...some other day. Just don't make it some other year.
