Archie Sonic The Hedgehog Online

The first issue of the fan-made continuation of Archie Sonic is online, carrying on where the original numbering left off too

That's kind of cool, the artwork seems to be very Archie Sonic. Just some things:

How long before they get DMCAd from Sega? I don't htink they'd be too happy, especially if it gets any sort of traction and if it doesn't have traction the fans will just stop making them, since I doubt it is very easy.

Since it's not bound by any guidelines then I'd expect them to introduce Ken Pender characters into the story again, it's the only reason why I'd follow this fanfic continuation.

How many stories could they really do before falling into fanfic territory? First issues shouldn't be that hard since there is already a plot to be resolved but after that if not handled well it can go full fanfic and I mean that in a bad way.

1. It's doubtful a take down from Sega will happen. Sega in general is more open to fan projects then most companies. Sonic the Comic Online, a fan made continuation of the British Sonic comics, has been going since 2003 without any problems from Sega. The only real possibility of a concern is Ken Penders getting upset over his "characters" being used without his consent. Unlike Sega he's not open to fan projects, even once infamously saying that if anyone wants to do fan art of his "characters" they should pay him for the privilege first.

2. All depends on the writing. Ian Flynn was a well known Sonic fanfic writer before being head writer on the comics and he's since become one of the most celebrated writers in the whole franchise.

At Sonic Expo in 2024, Archie Online had a panel where they announced their schedule for the next couple of months/years.

One issue is going to feature the 'Archie debut' of Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and there's going to be their own version of the Sonic/Megaman crossover that rebooted the official Archie universe. They have no plans to wrap up their version of the comic anytime soon.

Also, there's to be a new Sonic project which will bring back the post-reboot continuity and tell new stories with it

Those three have been in several Archie comics before.

This is our GENESIS.

A new chapter in Archie Sonic Online.

Post-Reboot Continues!

Archie Sonic Online is proud to announce we have merged with our longtime friends at @archiesonicrestoration-blog to publish a new label continuing Post-Reboot Archie Sonic.

In collaboration with @avaarctic of “Tangle & Whisper: New Roads,” our team is finishing the solicited issues of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe with plans to then continue with original Post-Reboot stories. Pre-Reboot comics will continue under our primary label without interruption.

We need your help, tryouts are open!

The ASR Team is already at work restoring STH #291 and #292 as well as SU #96 and #97. But our team is small and needs pencilers, inkers, colorists, letterers, etc. All positions are open.

If you or someone you know loves Post-Reboot Archie Sonic and want to volunteer, you can try out on the ASO discord server or via our email. Together, we can keep the Freedom Fighters alive for years to come.

A new era for Archie Sonic!

All Restored. All Online. All Free.

All Way Past Cool.

So IDW lost the license and Archie reclaimed it?

This looks more like a fan project, pretty much continuing the Archie comics with all the Sonic SATAM characters, completely disregarding whatever IDW is doing.

Archie Online is a fan group who've been producing new unlicensed Archie Sonic Comics for a number of years now. (Similar to what Turtles Club are now doing with Archie TMNT).

They started off with issues tying up the unfinished storylines before the Worlds Collide reboot but this announcement is that they're going to make comics for fans of the post-reboot universe in addition to that.

This was actually announced a number of months ago....I was late to discovering it, if I'd know earlier I would have posted it on April 1st for obvious reasons
