Another Potential Hollywood Strike Looming

Quote:
In the skies over Hollywood a small plane pulls a banner reading "vote yes".

On a monitor on a movie set, the same words are scrawled on a piece of luminous tape.

On a crane hoisting bits of scenery into place, the same slogan is emblazoned in big letters.

The workers are angry about their pay and conditions
That simple message is at the heart of a dispute which could shut down movie and television production across the United States within days.

The 60,000 members of the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) are voting this weekend on whether to authorise the first strike in the union's history.

If it goes ahead it would be the biggest private sector strike in the US for decades and would cripple much of the country's entertainment industry

Nothing of value will be lost.
Holywerid no longer produces anything, but ****** blockbusters, so strike or not, nothing will change.

Considering the kind of money the big studios tend to pull in and how much they're willing to stuff into the pockets of the people in front of the camera, I can't really say I blame them if their own jobs are being treated as far less valuable to the industry.

Vfx artists and cartoonists/animators are treated even worse, believe it or not.

Hopefully, they will honestly get what they deservedly demand. Hollywood needs to be painfully aware of that.

Unless there will be a direct threat of some super major bankruptcy of multiple Hollywood studios at the same time, I don't think anyone will bother. If only one studios goes belly up - it will be swallowed by its remaining rivals and everything else will stay the same.

Internet somewhat alleviates this problem, with making more people be able to post their works without studio interference and the platforms like Patreon help to finance those creators, but it is still far from ideal.

Animators have been overworked and underpaid for a long time. The wage suppression agreements between major animation studios kind of flew under the radar in 2014:

But how am I supposed to indoctrinate my kids with the liberal agenda if there's no new woke movies or TV for a while?

They've got that covered, too, what with sending drag queens to read storybooks to Kindergarten kids. No worries.

Unless the studios are willing to negotiate the terms/agreements that would satisfy all parties, IATSE will strike on October 18th.

I hope that something changes, but I'm afraid that this will share the same fate as the Writers' Strike.

Heh, most likely everyone will go back home, with what they come with - writers need money too and I don't think anyone, but Holyweird ready to pay them, even those money.

Holyweird execs can't write for ****, bt they always can hire whoever to produce another blockbuster, so, yeah, it seems writers are not in a good position for any fruitful negotiations.

The writers aren't really involved in this.

The pre/post-production crew are the ones protesting.
