Tonight I have just seen the movie in the cinema (I had already seen it on the net) and I don't know if it was because of the spanish traduction but, to me, lots of dialogues seemed redundant and cheesy. I didn't like it so much when I saw the original version because of the storyline and Fox's acting, but I wanted to see the whole movie in good quality so I could apreciate all the visual effects, etc., and to be sure I didn't miss any word. Well, apparently seen, watching the movie in the big screen hasn't made me see it with better eyes.

Finally saw it today. I knew it would be bad, but I was holding out hop that I'd find something I'd like in it and I thought for $7 including the ticket drink and popcorn it couldn't be THAT bad. It was worse than I thought and it was the first time I wanted to walk out of a movie, but I did stay until the end.
I haven't been around the forum much since the movie came out so I'm sure most of the criticisms have already been documented by others here. |

Movie hasn't been out in Spain until last week so I finally got the chance to watch it. I didn't want to spoil myself reading anything BEFORE, but after 27 pages reading this thread I think I have a good landscape of the opinions around.
Most specially I agree with dromers like Bry, Commenter 42 and RapahelinSTL or reviewers like Jeremy Jahns that this movie could have been better done. I am okay with origins been renewed, design getting more contemporary and April getting more presence in the story BECAUSE she may be the reason many guys are going to see this movie. I really am ok with all that. I watched the 60s Batman TV show when it was aired in Spain and thank God they did some major changes to transform it into Dark Knight, so when it comes to TMNT I was warned of the NEED to adapt some aspects to the demands of a new (and younger) audience. Unfortunately new and younger audience and a 25 years time lap since first movie is not a valid argument to create a film with unconsistent plot (VERY unconsistent), zero character development, a mastar who teaches no lesson, terrible miscast (How old is Karai? And who is her in the movie anyway?), action scenes with a camera moving like crazy to hide all the things we didn't think about and a Master Evil Lord that only has the name and no presense at all. I like the part in the metro where you don't get to see the turtles because they fight like ninjas and ninjas are invisible, I like them saying Cowabunga and I have to admit I smiled at the elevator, but there's a lot of nonsense in this movie. In a more personal level I find Splinter unbareablely ugly, some of the jokes are below my level of interest and Vernons' truck explosion was absolutely unnecessary.

You know, I went and saw this at midnight for the release and I had pretty low expectations. Sure enough, I really did not like the movie for most of the reasons that have been discussed at length already.
But the more I think back on the parts that I did like, the more I feel like they are good enough to make the movie enjoyable enough to buy. I have yet to see it again since it was in theaters, but I feel like since I already know what I don't like about it, I can focus on the aspects I did like, with the added bonus that my preconceptions have been left at the door. Anyone else hated this first time around, but thinking this movie deserves a second chance? |

Yea, I know I hate certain things about it. I know I hate Splinter, I know I hate Megan Fox. Now I can just ignore that and watch the turtles be fun and awesome. Raph is really cool in the movie.

I definitely think it could be somewhat watchable with like, half of the movie cut out. Not sure if I know anyone who'll be able to do the job, but I'm sure gonna see about that...

@Hannurdock I may have gotten the wrong impression here but I thought you'd loved the film from the outset? |

Saw it a second time (we were in a group and they bought my ticket) Hated it even more. All I see is the missed opportunity, the heartless cash grab, the plot holes that are even more glaring the second time, and the fact that this **** is getting a sequel that might be even worse.
Everyone else with me either hated it or at least admitted it could have been so much more had they tried.

Then I saw it for the first time and was devestated. True it wasn't the best copy, but I was floored. I had it on in the background over the next month and actually started to like the movie. By the time it came out over here, I was hooked. I loved it. It's been a rollercoaster for me.

Movie is getting extremely mixed receptions lately. For some it's
"**** YOU LIEBESMAN AND BAY" For others its. "COWABUNGA DUDE TURTLE POWER!"

Lately? It's been that way from day one. There are very few people who walk the fence on this film & it's designs. You either love it or hate it. Vocally.

First time I saw it, I didn't like it: the plot is weak, Shredder is ridicolous, the turtles are too big, and the jokes are without any sense of humor...
And now I'm thinking, perhaps I should give them a second chance. One more attempt... Last edited by Chabrendeki; 10-29-2014 at 07:32 AM. |

There's a pretty good copy circling the net now, for those who are tired of the blurry cam copies. I won't provide a link, as I'm sure that's against site rules. Go find it yourselves.
Fixed my screen grab of the Ninjitu book accordingly. A lot more readable now.

I liked the Turtles and Splinter themselves, as well as fight scenes. Overall the movie was quite a mess, and clearly they added the Japanese Shredder later to it. Would still watch again at some point.

Plenty of flaws. Butchered script. You could tell originally the turtles were supposed to be alien origin, their ancestors defeating a war lord in ancient Japan. Sachs was clearly written to be the Shredder. All of these changed or re-shot after the negative pub.
The turtles themselves looked fantastic on screen, and quite life like. No flaws there what so ever. Their interactions with each other, and characterization was perfect. Whoopie, and Fox were surprisingly likable. Where as Arnette was shockingly not, basically one note, and not even really funny. Just creepy. Arnette's infactuation as a much older guy with April will create an interesting dynamic for comedy though in the sequel with Casey, Vern, and Mikey all vying for April's attention. Loved the turtles transition from vigilantes in darkness, to heroes in the daytime. Including that amazing, kinetic, and original action sequence on the slopes. The turtles increased size, and strength made for some fun martial arts scenes w/ Splinter, and the Shredder. But want more next time, and for the camera to be pulled back some. Ending didn't make much sense. Particularly the missle shooting van. But no biggie. Overall, it's the 2nd best film in the big screen franchise. Even with it's flaws, and plot holes. It was fun. |

Another part of the problem is that you need someone that has there own original way to tell a story, Liebesman just seemed to copy everything Bay has done, only worse. Tim Burton for the 1989 Batman movie had his own visual style and at that time it worked, the movie stepped out of the box. If I am going to have weird big sized versions of the turtles I at least want a story that follows this. Don't be afraid of showing the fans something new just because popular outcry whines that it isn't what they grew up with. Stand by and defend your vision for the movie, even if it is unusual and hated.
