What made you happy today?
Not sure whether this thread will take off, but I thought it might be fun to have an opposite for the gear-grinding thread, where we can post little things that made us happy during the day!
My first one... a thing that made me happy today was the fog while I was driving to work this morning. I like fog, cuz it always makes me feel like I'm in a horror movie. I'm a simple creature, what can I say...

Since it was 90 degrees outside today, I was glad it was my day off of work. I work outdoors 90% of the time, so I'm glad all my co-workers were suffering and sweating in the heat while working while I was relaxing at home with the air conditioner on full blast.
I always love it when I get lucky at my job while others have to suffer. I guess I am lucky that my supervisors all like me. |

I just woke up, so nothing yet. Though I'm looking forward to watch the finale of Fargo in a few minutes.

Jesus Christ, 2014 era me. Little did I know I wouldn't be working at that job anymore in just another 3 months. Hard to believe that's over 2 1/2 years ago already. |

Coming home and just chilling with my boo while eating chimichangas made me happy today. I'm so lucky to have a partner who's comfortable hanging out with me in total silence while I decompress from the craziness of the week!

Today's thing that made me happy - getting a haircut. Sounds shallow, but there's no greater feeling than the feel of a freshly-clipped pixie (especially when you've got really thick hair). I feel so light... and free!

Got about $30 worth of games on Steam yesterday. Finally got Dark Souls, and I'm going to end up hating myself for it later

I'm happy tonight because I applied some Absorbine Jr. to a sprained (?) shoulder blade muscle. It's feeling MUCH BETTER versus last night when it really hurt to lift up either arm, bend over, ect.

Watching "Sonic in Scared Stupid part 2". It was really funny and even though it's one of Balenaproductions's older Gmod films, it's really good.

All of the ground cover plants in my back yard that I thought were hostas, are really Lilly of the Valley...and they're all in bloom. It smells so wonderful in the yard these days.
Add to that the glory that are Credit Card points which can be spent on things like: replacement aquarium filters, and...man, so happy. Just so so happy.

Listening the EarthBound Beginnings/Mother vocal album. There's just something optimistic about them, especially the first song, "Pollyanna".

I'm really happy that I'm visiting my parents now, especially since in the Gear Grinder thread, I complained about them being upset about me being bald.
Its been 2 weeks since then and my hair has grown back so they won't be as shocked |

Was really excited to correspond with Jorge Lucas about his work on Iron Man, particularly about one of his more iconic pages which I'm really proud to own. If we were still publishing "Advanced Iron", this would've been an article of some kind, possibly with more interview content with Jorge.
I am really happy to land such an iconic page from "The Best Defense" arc by John Jackson Miller and Jorge Lucas. "The Best Defense" was a truly progressive and character evolving arc in volume 3 that pre-dates the "Director of S.H.I.E.L.D." material that we all know and love as well. I've always felt that this run should be given greater regard by the comic community at large as it really delivered on a paradigm shift for Iron Man that hadn't been touched on before; yet was so organic and fitting for the character that it seems like a no-brainer in hindsight. Lucas' work during his time on volume 3 is amazing - capturing small details like Geof Darrow, but maintaining a sophisticated Frank Miller sensibility in the linework. I am a big fan. I've always admired this page of the story for several reasons - in many ways it's pure Americana, it served the story incredibly well, and on it's own merits it depicts a larger-than-life Iron Man in his place as a protector and servant to the greatest country on Earth. It could also be the companion piece to an equally poignant drawing of Captain America overlooking a large American flag on-page. When the final art was published in the book, this page also included a shot of Tony Stark with the media behind him. I corresponded with Jorge Lucas himself who described that when he would work on "real places" in the book (like the incredibly detailed Capital building here), that he would draw other characters for the scene on different art paper and then scan everything together "like a puzzle". I was left with the impression that this process helps him focus on his incredibly meticulous linework, allowing him to put other figures into the layout later - perhaps his version of the "drawing through" technique where an artist continues a drawing completely although ultimately parts of it will be occluded on the page. I also mentioned that the fans at Advanced Iron loved his run on the book, and that it stood out like a gem in the volume to which he replied that he was very happy that we loved his art and that our praise gives him great pride. |
