More Classic TMNT DVD News

It seems we may have mini-series' co-writer David Wise to thank, for making sure we got the full episodes of the classic Turtles. It seems Artisan/Lion's Gate was all set for to release the edited 72-minute Epic Begins, but the huge stink raised by fans got to David Wise and he helped convince them to release the full episodes. Knowing that fans would likely go ballistic over the edited versions.

If you don't know who David Wise is, he's one of the writers for the series. And also was responsible for The Transformers, He-Man, Isis, Buck Rogers, Wonder Woman, Star Trek: The Animated Series, and Batman: TAS, as well as a LOT of the '87 TMNT episodes. The DVD will supposedly feature all five episodes, without opening and closing credits, except at the start and end of the 5 episodes.

As for cover art, there's been some confusion. Originally the one that appeared on DVDEmpire was believed to be just a mock-up art done by DVDEmpire. But Artisan/Lion's Gate revealed their April cover-art, and it is very similar to what was originally shown. So it looks like that's what we're getting. Note that it's still not the final art. Since it's missing several necessary markings on the case. But it does appear to be what we may be getting.

I really don't like that cover at all. But oh well, it's better than nothing I suppose.

Well the cover is disapointing, but it's the content that matters.

I love the DVD cover; I don't care what anybody says.

I'm very disappointed in Artisan. They really were going to feed us the crappy "Epic Begins" saga. Thank God for David Wise; if not for him, we'd all be receiving DVDs that would be about as valuable as Frisbees.

I hope Artisan finally gets its stupid act together and takes notice of the TMNT fan base. Maybe after the initial outpour of people who didn't want the "Epic Begins" this will sink into their thick skulls and they'll do this thing right.

Eh, after a closer look, the cover's not as bad as I made it out to be. I mean, come on, if all of the seasons eventually come out, the cover's gotta be a bit more universal. I hate to piss off all of you Mirage fans and later-than-season-one dissers, but that cover looks as universal as it can get.

That doesn't change my opinion on screwing up the flow of the episode order, however.

We really should send a Technodrome link to Artisan/Lion's Gate. Then they can see some real TMNT fans, and see what we think of shows being edited. Then they may realize why we feel as we do.

Hey, anything that comes out with the old Turtles series is just fine with me! And I think the cover-art looks pretty cool; very much like the boxes of the old TMNT videos (remember those, peeps? BEFORE there was such a thing as DVDs??). I know I plan on getting them when they hit the store-shelves!!! COWABUNGA!!!

yeah, jeez, i can't wait for that to come out. I have the epic begins video, and i never even knew it had stuff cut out until i watched the actual videos of the episodes at my girlfriend's house. It completely cuts out "A Thing About Rats"...which was a good ep, considering it showed how they got the van that evenually became the turtles van, which i always wondered how they got.
