Today I finished the 1st two light novels and the 3rd manga volume of My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong As I Expected.
Thoughts: Light Novels-These things are fantastic! Some of the best books I've ever read. If you're getting into the franchise, all the mediums are great, but the light novels are definitely the best (and the original) version. You get the most story reading these and Hikki becomes a very well developed character in these. It's fascinating reading his thoughts on things and finding out firsthand why he does the things he does. The artwork is great too, even though there isn't much. I'd definitely say these books are worth reading. A shame we have to wait months for each one to get translated, but that's the way it is. Manga-This is the 2nd manga adaptation (I believe) but the only one they've been putting out in English. It's very faithful to the source material and the art is top notch. The translation is very similar to the light novels' but better in some ways. What I really like about this version as opposed to the anime version is the consistency in art style. Anime season 1 was visually great, it had a nice loose feel to it and things felt more laid-back. With season 2 came a new art style, so the characters looked different and a bit more dramatic looking. The manga maintains the looser look throughout and it's a real treat seeing it like that. It's not as good as the light novels (as those are just AMAZING and hard to top), but the manga's still VERY good and worth reading alongside the other versions. |

I finished One Piece Man and my knee jerk reaction changed, it gets much better but I still can't say I love it like I've seen it praised online. It seems to be like a parody but it's too silly to be seen like Dragon Ball but not silly enough for a show like bobobobo. I did like when they established more of a plot but by that point the show was already to silly to really take it a bit more serious like they wanted to. Good show, nothing amazing.
I think I'll watch kill la kill next which is another show that is often praised online. I didn't like the girls transformed outfit, it was too much for me so and I also didn't love Garren Lagan so I skipped it but might as well see what all the fuzz is about. |

I started watching Mayo Chiki.
I'm about halfway through. It's pretty weird, but in a good way. The characters are weird and memorable, and the story gets interesting and really humorous. I've read through a bit of the manga and this anime seems to be a good adaptation of it. |

so getting back into Yugioh vrains. Now that Crunchyroll has finally played catch up with all the yugioh series, it's pretty great that they are now up to date and I don't have to worry about waiting for fansubs

Finished Mayo Chiki. It was another great anime, and I'm happy this one actually had a somewhat-ending! Of course the light novels and manga continue on from that point l, but at least the anime didn't end on a cliff hanger.
I've been watching D-Frag! and I'm already on episode 9. I read a bit of the manga for this one too, and I've been enjoying the anime version a lot. It's full of great humorous moments and endearing characters. Also, I've noticed that most of the anime series I've seen recently involve kids joining school clubs while making friends and getting into relationships. That probably says something about myself, but I'll just ignore it for now.... |

So I found out that Centaur no Nayami/A Centaur's Life/Centaur's Worries has an anime out. While I haven't watched it (I'm caught up on the manga instead) I am curious that it seems like the anime is only adapting the SOL chapters (at least judging by the clips on youtube) granted it seems like they would be stopping right on chapter 24 with the adaptation (which would put this right past the incest subtext chapter as well as Christmas chapter.)
Sad, I would love to see all the Alien stuff appear as well as the chapters dealing with War, even the story arc where Hime gets transported to (our) world.

So yesterday when I found that random website talking about My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong as I Expected (or Oregairu for short) and it's upcoming continuation, I was left a bit confused due to the bad translation. Luckily I wanted to find out as much as I could and I stumbled upon myanimelist's report on it: https://myanimelist.net/news/51968893
Their synopsis is much clearer and the phrase "The latest release marks the beginning of the final chapter in the series" suggests that this next volume isn't the last one, but merely the start of the conclusion! What a relief; the ending won't be rushed and we'll be able to get more stories before it concludes for real. The wait for Oregairu's ending has been a long one, I didn't expect it to come anytime soon. Many fans are sad it'll come to an end, but we're all happy we get to see the Service Club's antics a few more times. Oregairu has easily become my favorite LN/manga/anime series of all time, and this series had helped me through so much. I'll be heartbroken whenever this amazing trip is over, but I'll always be happy I went along for the ride. Last edited by DestronMirage22; 08-21-2017 at 01:11 AM. |

The most recent manga I've read is A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi). It's pretty breezy at sixty two chapters, but that's not a bad thing, since it knows when to get out and is still pretty affecting. I looked into it when I heard about the anime film, which I guess is having a US screening soon?
Basically, an ex bully reunites with the deaf girl he'd caused so much pain for in grade school and attempts to apologize for everything he'd done. She decides to give him a chance and they become friends. But just because she forgives him, doesn't mean he forgives himself, or that she's okay. It's a pretty affecting look at the effects of bullying, but more than that it's a picture into trying to find some sense of self worth and pull yourself out of self loathing. It doesn't really pull punches and can be genuinely sad, with a cast of characters who are all pretty flawed, deep down, while never being irredeemable. Well worth a read.
