Here is some new information from director Bill Condon.

Quote:
What has the future in store, anything after Beauty And The Beast?

That is my future [laughs], for the next two years until we finish it. You shoot a movie like this and that’s almost like the prep for the production which becomes the editing and creating so much of it in post [production]. In the case here, the household staff and creatures are computer-generated.

It’s an important movie to a lot of people. I was a young adult when it came out and I loved it and there’s so many people in their 20s, 30s, 40s who saw it as children and love it. In a way that’s a good thing and a bad thing because people have strong feelings and memories of it - so we have to make sure we don’t screw it up.

It’s great so far. Big and complicated but very, very fun.

Will your Beauty And The Beast be a reimagining of the 1991 animated classic, or are you sticking strictly to the source?

It’s interesting. First of all it’s a really perfect movie. What I’m hoping is, we’re expanding on things and bringing it into a third dimension means that characters can’t behave exactly in the same way. You know, Gaston and LeFou can’t be literally as cartoonish as there were in the movie. I’m hoping it’s a satisfying expansion of what people already know.

And here is what he had to say about Emma Watson.

Quote:
Oh my god, I think she is going to blow everybody away. We've already done two of her musical numbers. She's a beautiful singer, a wonderful dancer. She's become one for this movie and she's just one of the hardest working people I've ever met. She's really just doing a beautiful job so far. As is Hattie Morahan, who's playing the Enchantress in the movie.
Plus, he had more to say about the film.

Quote:
"It's exciting. We're into our first month of shooting and it's been everyday, to be on these huge sets that represent the Beast's castle, to see these big musical numbers. We're all pinching ourselves. It's just been a very exciting, a very kind of realistic telling of that story.

Well, haven't we had live action films on this before?

I wonder if Disney will do a live action Mulan film?

I didn't know Emma Watson could sing but then again there was no reason to in the Harry Potter movies.

Josh Gad, who will play LeFou, says that Emma's singing voice will be incredible in this film.

Emma Watson sent a message to the fans at D23 Expo.

Josh Gad and Luke Evans also sent a message where they sang "Gaston". However, that clip has not been shown outside of the Expo.

Emma Watson completed filming yesterday. It also marked the 15th anniversary of her, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint being announced as the leads of the Harry Potter films.

Luke Evans had this to say about Emma's portrayal of Belle.

Quote:
“She’s great,” he said. “She epitomizes what Belle should be in the 21st century to young girls; she’s a strong woman. We all know Emma as Emma, a strong woman, she has a voice, she uses it very effectively and I admire her for that. She’s brought some of that to Belle. She’s not just a Disney princess, she’s more than a Disney princess, and she has a beautiful sensitive side to her. She’s quite delicate to look at, but she’s not at all. She’s a really strong, feisty woman and we have some fantastic scenes in the film. I was making her laugh more than she should have been laughing.”

And does she have the pipes to belt the musical’s iconic songs? Yes, Evans confirmed.

“Great singing voice to boot. She’s a triple threat. Makes me sick.”
As for filming the movie,

Quote:
The cast wrapped a month ago, after a long shoot that included seven weeks of rehearsal before a camera was even turned on. Evans said he’s especially looking forward to audiences seeing his big number, “Gaston.”

“That took four and a half weeks, five weeks to rehearse,” he said. “I can’t even tell you what’s in the scene but believe you me it’s beautiful. Josh [Gad] and I were very proud of the work that we put in, and it’s fantastic. It was very sad when we finished the scene, because it felt that we’d shot a whole damn movie in the time.”

While promoting the Aladdin Blu-Ray, Alan Menken gave an update on the film and revealed why one of the Broadway songs, "If I Can't Love Her" will not be performed in the film.

Quote:
I have to ask you, Alan, about the live-action Beauty and the Beast.

MENKEN: They’re editing it now.

Are they just taking all the songs from the movie?

MENKEN: The songs from the movie are in. Actually, none of the songs from the Broadway made the film. I would’ve taken “If I Can’t Love Her,” but the problem is that was for a very specific moment to end Act I of the Broadway show. There’s a moment where the Beast drives her away and he regrets that. But I think Bill [Condon] built a more promising moment for the film, which is when he lets her go and he watches her leave. And as he watches her leave, he sings.

MUSKER: So you wrote a new song?

MENKEN: A new song with Tim Rice. There’s actually three new songs written for the movie. It’s called “Forever More,” and there’s also a song called “Days in the Sun.”

MUSKER: Is it based on any of the melodies from the film?

MENKEN: Similar. Sort of a cousin of “If I Can’t Love Her.” So yes, there’s new songs and I’ll be scoring that in the spring. It’s exciting.

Here is Luke Evans singing alongside Hugh Jackman, who originated the role of Gaston in the Australian production of Beauty and the Beast. They have a sing-off to determine, which of them is the better Gaston.

Dan Stevens (the Beast) talked about the movie in a couple of interviews from Entertainment Weekly and the Hollywood Reporter.

Quote:
You’ve worked with Bill Condon twice now in The Fifth Estate and Beauty and the Beast. Describe his style of directing.

Bill’s a real sweet man, and he’s so intelligent and gentle. He’s not one of those savage directors. He’s very subtle and kind. He has a sweet sensitivity to the whole of the story to tell.

Do you sing in Beauty and the Beast?

I sang a song. Yeah, is it gonna be in the movie? You’ll have to ask Bill. Alan Menken wrote a brand new song for the Beast, because he doesn’t sing in the original animated movie.

Your wife is a singer. Did she help you prepare?

Yes. She helped with my audition, which I was terrified of. We’re a pretty musical household and it was lovely to have that. We’ve never really sung together all that much. It was a really beautiful thing to do. It was such an exciting project. The preparation was so intense and different to anything I’ve take on before, physically and vocally and also the technology we employed in achieving that. It was so groundbreaking and mysterious and weird and wonderful. I really felt all the sort of fairytale magic.

Quote:
On a much different note, you’re also playing Beast in Disney’s upcoming Beauty and the Beast. Can you give fans a taste of what to expect?

I haven’t seen the finished thing yet, but they’ve been working on the digitals and music, and it’s going to be epic. I can’t say much more than that.

Paige O'Hara (the original voice of Belle) was at a 25th anniversary screening of the film. She revealed that she got to speak to Emma Watson.

Quote:
Paige O'Hara, who voices Belle, could not be more pleased with the casting of Emma Watson as the live-action leading lady. In fact, unlike the rest the original voice cast, she has corresponded with the actress playing her character. "I sent messages to her, and I got some back," O'Hara said. "I just said to have a great time."

I actually did know the thing about the prince not having a name...and the great amounts of fretting over Gaston's chest hair. They drew so many different versions it was ridiculous.

Here is Ewan McGregor talking about the film, working with Bill Condon, and recording "Be Our Guest".

Quote:
Could you ever have imagined that you could add playing Lumiere, the Beast’s singing candelabra, in a live-action Beauty and the Beast film? What was that experience like, making that film with Bill Condon?

McGregor: It’s no different to anything else. It’s interesting because it’s partly animated, but partly not. Voicing an animation is a process. They partly animated off of what you’ve done, and you partly perform off of what they’ve done. It’s a nice collaboration. I really like working with Bill Condon. He’s a director I’d love to work with again. And there are some great actors in it – Stanley Tucci, Emma Thompson, Sir Ian McKellen. We had a great time together when we were working on set. And then, I’ve enjoyed working with Bill on the post-production side of it, as well. And recording the big “Be Our Guest” song was just fantastically fun, and nothing something I’ve done in quite awhile. I haven’t recorded a song for a movie since Moulin Rouge, so it’s been quite a long time.

Buzzfeed has more from Paige O'Hara on what she thinks about Watson and the film.

Quote:
“In [the original] movie it was in the snow scene of ‘Something There’ that we made a specific choice that it hits Belle: She’s really falling in love with [the Beast]. I want to see Emma’s moment when she realizes she’s fallen in love. That will be so exciting.”

“If I were producing the film, I would have cast her. I think she’s absolutely perfect for the role. She’s got the outward beauty, but she’s also got an inward beauty about her, and an old soul. Through mutual people we’ve sent messages, and I just basically was wishing her all the best and to have a wonderful time.”
