Aren't these based on books though? You'd already know who's coming back for the next one.

Rowling published the actual "book" referenced by Harry Potter in Philosopher's Stone in 2001 with the proceeds going to charity from sales. The actual story that is being carved out on screen is entirely new and written by Rowling now. Given the first film was set in 1926 and the first edition of "Fantastic Beasts" was published in 1927, it is possible it is now "out" by the time this second film is set.
The only thing we DO know about the end of the films is that Newt marries Porpentina, it's mentioned at the end of Deathly Hallows. One of Newt's grandchildren married Luna Lovegood.

Producer David Heyman believes that the sequel is going to be better than the first film.

That's good. Part 1 wasn't much of anything at all.

Agreed. Part 1 just felt like world building and set up for the eventual Dumbledore and Grindelwald rivalry that the producers were talking about in the 4 sequels to come. That said I enjoyed the first one way more than I was expecting.

I loved it. Newt was likable as was Jacob, and the story was interesting and had a lot of heart. The creatures were amazing too, but what I enjoyed the most was the interactions between the four main characters- Newt, Jacob, Queenie and Porpentina.

The trailer for the sequel is here. It sure is nice to see Hogwarts Castle again along with the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

Earlier this year, Rowling said that Dumbledore will not be "explicitly" gay in the sequel.

I thought the trailers for the first movie looked bad but the movie was a pleasant surprise. This trailer on the other hand looks pretty dang good and makes me want to see the movie asap. I still wish they would've used the bad press to recast Depp.
Is that Wizarding World logo at the beginning new? I assume that moniker is the equivalent of the Star Wars brand for the Harry Potter franchise. |

I have no problem with Depp's casting and I think this looks better then I thought it would be.
