Ross, I so wanna read your "Mikey Wins" scenario!
Great article, regardless!

Cereal:Geek publisher James Eatock has shown a preview of some amazing new TMNT art based on the infamous Japanese OVA.

James himself will write the corresponding article for Issue #10. He told me he did quite a bit of research on this one, and DrSpengler and Cryomancer will be happy to known that he even checked out the fan-translated mangas!

Makes me feel guilty that I haven't finished translating Vol 3, then he could've had a complete story to work with when researching.

I'm still oly halfway through the thing; I gotta get back on that.

Ha, I thought the same thing! But at least you're still making project on the translation. It should be spectacular once the project is finished.

James promised that there is another piece of art to go with this piece. Supposedly, it will feature Japan-imation Shredder, which may have used the Dengeki Comics as artistic references!

Cool stuff, glad to be some form of inspiration.

Posting this after having just finished up bubbling another batch of pages, too. The end is starting to come into sight for the final volume.

Just got Cereal:Geek #8 in the mail today! Lots of good content inside, including some nice TMNT bits!

With the help of Ross May, I've got a revised list of TMNT content in the existing issues.

From Ross:
Quote:
Here's a breakdown of Ninja Turtles content in the magazine. Issues 3 and 5 feature them more than anywhere else.

Issue 1: Broke down the intro, a Shredder pinup by Andie Tong, a Krang pinup by Andie Tong.

Issue 2: Voice actor spotlight on Cam Clarke, a Channel 6 staff write-up with pinup by Pedro Figue.

Issue 3: TMNT themed cover by Pedro Figue, April pinup by Cody Constable, Shredder pinup by Ric Nicholls, TMNT series overview by me with illustration by Rich Molinelli, article by Tristan Jones.

Issue 4: No turtles!

Issue 5: April pinup by Michal Szyksznian, TMNT Adventures comics overview by me with illustration by Karl Mostert.

Issue 6: "5 Reasons We Love the TMNT" article by David Monid.

Issue 7: Michelangelo vs. Panthro (of Thundercats) text by myself and Jon Talpur with pinup by Jon Landry.

I'm not sure when my "Gift of the Mutants" TMNT Christmas article will be in cereal:geek. You can ask James Eatock yourself - I think it will be in either 9 or 10.
Issue 8 includes "What Become of Krang?" (1 page feature by Ross May with illustration by theFranchize), "Official Handbook of the Eighties Universe: O'Neil, April" (1 page feature by James Eatock with illustration by Jon Landry and Nicolas Chapuis), "Movie of the Week: The Five-Part Adventures of the Eighties" (feature article by Jon Talpur with illustration by James Stayte featuring Michaelangelo and Krang hanging with a few 80s friends).

Bebop & Rocksteady came in at #2 on John Baird's list of "Top Ten Henchmen."

And Rob Paulsen 80s career highlights are showcased in "Voice Actor Spotlight," which I'm sure would make Jester happy.

I always wanted to get a hand on those CG Magazines, but I haven't found a way to import them to Austria/Europe.

Is there a way to get them over here?

The TMNT anime-verse will be featured right on the cover of issue #10!!!

https://twitter.com/cerealgeek/statu...451392/photo/1

via James Eatock:
Quote:
Continuing from where issue nine left off the theme of issue ten is EAST meets WEST (as in Japanese animation influencing American animation during the eighties) - The cover showcases the Turtle Saint (and the Turtles) from the rarely seen, but thoroughly enjoyable two-part Ninja Turtles anime produced exclusively for Japan in the mid nineties!

...and yes, this issue is backdated to the fourth quarter of 2011 - This is because issues eleven, and twelve (which follow SOON) will bring us up to 2013!
Issues 9-12 are all schedule to be released in early 2013 and James Eatock is hoping to offer them as a lot purchase via Kickstarter!

James is currently posting preview issues for the upcoming issues of Cereal:Geek, and today he gave us a look at 3 of the 4 Super Turtles!

Here's some more TMNT preview content from the last week:

Figured I'd take the opportunity to plug the ol' Cereal:Geek again.

James has unveiled the next 8 issues and offered them all up for pre-order.

Apparently, there will be quite a bit of TMNT content in these next few issues, and they even feature on the cover of two of the issues (#10 & #16)!

Definitely gonna get at LEAST the two TMNT covers, especially for the Anime/Manga content. Thanks for the heads up!

I went ahead and pre-ordered 9 & 10 to get the full effect of the East-West themes. As funds permit, I'll try to get some more, although the ones I buy next will probably be determined by how well the pre-order numbers are going. It's tough to wait!

Booyah!

Just got this one in the mail yesterday!

Also, I seem to recognize the name of a certain notorious TMNT fan...

Also, Ross May's imagination on what an Old Toon Christmas episode might have been like was pretty great too (in issue #9)!

Is there any coverage of the manga?

Just for the sake of my own vanity, I'd kinda like to know if they reference our translations.

Although I had my hopes set on a full on plug for the Fan Translation project, I was only able to spot two references to the manga in issue #10.

On page 78:
"The Mutastones are detailed in the accompanying manga as being the most concentrated form of Mutagen, the ooze that gave the Turtles their humanoid forms. This is plausible as the Mutagen that transformed them in the first place was given to the Shredder by Krang; so it stands to reason that Dimension X would also house the Mutastones."

And on the same page:
"One of the notable differences is that while all the other characters resemble their original designs, the Shredder is vastly different. In the accompanying manga it was comically explained (and illustrated) in one panel that in a battle, prior to the events of the anime, the Turtles destroyed the Shredder's costume, prompting Krang to build him a new one!"

As cereal:geek is a publication that focuses particularly upon animation, Eatock's article is mostly a summary/review of the two anime episode with background reference to its relationship to the U.S. Fred Wolf show and the Takara toy tie-ins. I was hoping the manga would get a little more attention, but I think those two references are it. However, Oscar Celestini provided three full-page illustrations to accompany the article, one of which ended up being the cover issue. I certainly appreciated reading it.

I always ordered directly from the site and import them, although I guess it may be possible to get your local comic shop to order some copies too.

Thanks, man. Damn, a bit pricey, eh? It's always when I can't spend that things like this come up. You think they'll be in stock for a while, or do I need to strike while the iron's hot?

I expect it will probably be a couple of years before James sells out of the latest issues, given the usual sales of the previous issues. The per-issue price recently jumped up about a couple of pounds, and the exchange rate is always in a slight state of flux. But if you do have the means to purchase an issue every once and while, C:G is definitely a worthy candidate for your hard-earned money.

Every time I sell an item to someone on the Drome, I pretty much pool all the PayPal money into Cereal:Geek funding. Given all the new issues coming out, now I really need to sell off a few more comics or something!
