TMNT in Cereal:Geek

I don't think we ever started a thread specifically for discussion of the TMNT content in the once-in-a-while published Cereal:Geek magazine.

I was recently fortunate enough to pick-up a used copy of the third issue with the TMNT rockin' the cover!
http://www.cerealgeek.com/issue_03.html
Published: First Quarter 2008
This issue's theme was "evolution" and examined how classic 80s cartoon series developed throughout their entire run of episodes.

Included in this issue are:
  1. "News from the Eighties" (Two-page fake-newspaper spread referencing the TMNT written by Gregory Strauff and Jon Kallis), which features an April O'Neil pin-up by Cody Constable
  2. "Top Trumps of the Eighties: Shredder" (illustration by Ric Nicholls)
  3. Four-page retrospective on each season of the original TMNT cartoon, "I Wanna Be a Turtle When I Grow Up!" (written by Ross May, illustrated by Rich A. Molinelli, colors by Darrin Moore)
  4. One-page commentary on the odd scene at the end of "Turtle Tracks" entitled, "The Boundaries of Believability" (by Tristan Jones)

Grand total of TMNT content in Issue #3: 8 pages + Cover

Other known appearances in the super-cheap downloadable PDF specials:
"Same/As" #1
P.9 Shredder pin-up (by Andie Tong and Joshua Ravello)
P.10-13 "Analyze Intro" (four-page analysis of the original Intro written by James Eatock)
P.21 Krang pin-up (by Andie Tong and Joshua Ravello)
P.80-81 "Channel Six Happy Hour News" (written by Ross May, illustrated by Pedro Figue)

"Same/As" #2
P.38 April O'Neil illustration (by Michal Szykszian)

Anymore contributions from forum members would be much appreciated!

I'm sure you already have! Everybody has seen this picture, but probably never knew it was Andy's work.

Seeing how this issue is sold out from the official site, I'd be happy to scan this in clear conscience without any fear of hindering James Eatock's noble efforts to make enough money to keep this great series in publication.

However, I feel kinda jumpy now the Nick TMNT storyboards from the "pilot" are now banned from the internet, so I'll just recommend everybody do their best to find the issue on their own.

It was just me taking a playful stab at the incredible structural engineering of the building in that episode. If I find it, I'll put it up on the blog fer ya!

Good piece, Tristan! Do you think you can provide any info regarding other TMNT content that appeared in the Cereal:Geek series?

Cereal Geek #5 has a 4-page article titled "Cowabunga Comics". It's written by Ross May and gives an overview of the Archie TMNTA series.

It's accompanied by two big pages of TMNT art:

Thanks for the info, WD! I'd love to read May's take on the Archie-verse sometime! And that April pin-up was also included in the Same/As #2 special.

Curse you! That's a link to my Flickr scans of the Cowabunga Comics charity book - I was going to post this as I hadn't seen it mentioned on here before but you've beaten me to it now!
I'll have to find something else to post instead now!

PayPal, dude! After that, you'll probably need to wait a day or two for Eatock to email you the download link.

I found another reference in issue #7.

It's a 2-page feature entitled: "Who Will Win?! Michelangelo Vs. Panthro"

Written by Jon Talpur, Ross May (dude picked Panthro, lol), and illustrated by Jon Landry (art) and Nicolas Chapuis (colors)

Panthro.

Sorry Mikey.

It's kinda sad too. In the Mikey wins write-up, they just make nice at the end of the battle. In Ross's vision of the Panthro victory... oy... poor Mikey.

Hehe. I'll have you guys know that I wrote a scenario where Michelangelo won as well (and no making nice, he kicked butt). James had Jon do the same and then picked what he felt were the best of all of them. The obvious pairing of Mike and Panthro was that they essentially both use nunchakus.
