Okay, so I guess the actual series doesn't start until September? But the 45 min first episode -- or special that begins the series? -- was cute and watchable enough.

Looks like it's going to be a regular serialized series, or at least have some kind of arc, with a glimpse of the to-be villain near the end. Pleasantly surprised, I wasn't really expecting it to be that kind of show.

Only thing I could really do without is the overly cutesy baby dragon. Unless they make it grow up and talk so that its presence even matters, it feels way too obvious that it exists primarily as the predictable "pet add-on" for a toy line.

Finally saw this new episode. Ya it’s supposed to be a whole series. G5. Not sure it needed to be 45min though. It’s cool earth ponies got magic. Surprised FIM never did that. Not that I remember. They say it’s the first time. Dragon probably has some connection to Spike.

Izzy is definitely my favorite new pony. She’s an artist and “Pinkie Pie lite”. Not that Pinkie Pie was my favorite before (probably Applejack). I think it’s a cuter version of that personality. Excited but easygoing. Pinkie Pie ended up kinda flanderized imo.

Earth ponies' magic is their strength, just as Pegasus ponies' magic is their flight/cloud walking.

I just watched a review on YouTube and the comments were talking about this.

The difference is Earth ponies did not have a “magic power”. Here it’s a distinct ability like instantly grow things and Hitch talking to animals.

Yes Fluttershy could communicate with animals. Maybe it’s some extension of that like the gems sharing the ability with others.

I saw all of FIM I just can’t recall specifics off the top of my head.

Gen 5 is definitely not my cup of tea yet. But I guess it’s better than what Mattel is doing with their doll franchises.

Don't forget that Pinkie Pie had psychic powers and you could call that a form of magic in this series.

So I finally got to watch the “Make Your Mark” special… kind of meh if you ask me. Not nearly as funny as the movie itself. And it’s more of a Zip story and she hasn’t exactly impressed me.

Read the first two issues of the Gen 5 comics and Discord shows up and we get the creation of the crystals and even a peak into the antagonist that showed up in make your mark.

Kind of a weird story if it turns out the comics won’t be canon to the show.
