I'd say cause they're not dispensing it at the moment that we're plugging it. Turn an exit into an entrance, I always say.

I must say, for years I didn't really understand the ass fetish. I've always been more of a boob man. After all that's the body feature of the opposite sex that stood out the most to me from the very beginning. While everyone in the world has a butt.

That isn't to say I didn't find asses attractive when I was a teenager. Sure I did, but I just preferred boobs much more.

I still prefer boobs to this day. But sure, asses are nice too.

If that's what it takes, we'll have to fund a church run mostly like babes like these, performing pole vaulting and sitting on your lap while reciting scripture. You'll be spreading the good word in no time.

I guess the only reason anyone would want to watch paule vaulting is because of eye candy. Because, from a technical and objective standpoint, I don't see what's interesting about this sport at all. So there's gotta be a reason people bother watching it.

I mean, a lot of Olympics sports are boring and no one remembers them except that one summer every 4 years. But at least I can see the technical appeal of 100 meters races or swimming races. Pope vaulting? Nope. And if you check the comments in some of those videos, everyone is watching them for the same reason Andrew made this thread.

It's like when guys talk bakut being fans of Women's Volleyball. Nobody gives an actual **** about women's volleyball. They just wanna stare at the athletes backsides.

All women's sports except golf and bowling are Softcore Porn. That's the only reason they exist at all.

Which is why I don't like women's football. Not only is it inferior to men's football but they also tend to be unattractive. I swear, 70% of female footballers are lesbians and certainly look the part. If you know what I mean.

In the last several years, FIFA and other organisations have been trying to push women's football and making it more popular. Ofc it's not a genuine push but something with an agenda behind. I tried watching some womens football and it's lousy. Awful communication between players and really bad tactical mistakes and blunders. Plus, there was a squad of women that was defeated by a male squad of 16 year old boys a while ago.

"But women are just as good as men at the same sports!" yeah no. That's why sports are segregated by gender.

Yet people like Megan Rapinoe demand equal pay for female football players. No female football player I've seen is anywhere near as good as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. No way.

I'm sure the same applies to every other team sport in the world. There's a reason why men's sports are much more popular than women's sports. And it's not some patriarchal conspiracy.

Women can compete with men in many fields, but sports isn't one of them. That's just simple biology.

God DAMN does it throw me off every single time whenever someone says "football" instead of "soccer".

I know that we're the ones who are wrong and everything, but jeez. I can't even help it, it's involuntary. "Since when do women play foo- ooohhhhhhhh, he means soccer."

Again, I know that it's just Over Here and that we're the dumb ones. Still. Can't be helped.

...It's still the "Genesis" and not the "Mega Drive", though, I don't even give a f*ck. I am NOT giving THAT one up.

Well, I don't have an issue with the word soccer in itself. More like I don't accept a sport you guys have being called football when it isn't even anything like football. It's more like rugby. Football is a sport where you actually control the ball with your feet and shoot it to score goals.

I don't mind the name Genesis. I just say Mega Drive out of habit. I figure everyone knows what I'm talking about.

Why did you guys change the console's name anyway? Legal issues due to some product there being called Mega Drive already?

In Europe SNES Star Fox is Star Wing and Star Fox 64 is Lylat Wars. And Contra is... Probotector. Now that's a weird name change.

Nothing about "American football" makes any sense to me anyway. Can't stand it.

With the Mega Drive/Genesis, it was twofold, but nothing as complicated as all that. Then-CEO David Rosen simply disliked the name "Mega Drive", but also, he thought the name "Genesis" would be prophetic. All previous Sega consoles had done poorly, but hopes were high that their 16-bit console would be a "new beginning", so they settled for "Genesis" based on what it would represent, a "rebirth" of sorts for Sega.

To be fair, his hopes turned out to be spot-on. And Genesis is rather catchy.

In other cases such as games having different names in different regions, sometimes it's a legal or copyright issue, such as Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior, and sometimes they just do focus groups and market research that suggest different names would suit different regions. For example, sometimes different regions have trouble pronouncing various words, and so names will be changed for that reason.

But the Genesis/Mega-Drive situation was far simpler than all that. Basically, "the boss just liked the sound of it better" for his own personal reasons.

It a just seems odd for a sport like that to be the most popular there. You'd think basketball or even baseball would be more popular and accessible to the population. All I know about baseball comes from Wiii sports and Anime, since Japan likes baseball, and it doesn't seem like a bad sport for anyone regardless of height or body type to pick up and play.

There has to be a reason why American style "football" never managed to become popular abroad. It just doesn't appeal to most people. Basketball is pretty big worldwide. Baseball is popular in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba and the Dominican Republican. Ice hockey... okay I know that's Canadian, but it's poplar in several European countries such as Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia.

I know it's technically not a sport, but pro wrestling might very well be the most popular televised American sport after basketball across the globe. No one I know irl can name NFL players. But many can name WWE wrestlers from the past.

I see.

Genesis does sound cool tbh. Mega Drive sounds more generic and makes me think more of a computer drive than a video game system.

Funny enough, Sega defeated Nintendo in Europe by a considerable margin. I know it was a tight battle in USA, but SNES ended up prevailing in the end. Even despite all of the aggressive marketing by Sega of America.

Well in the case of Star Fox, the 90s games had to change their names here because there was a British game from the 80s or so called Star Fox already. So it was definitely licensing issues. But by the time the GameCube rolled in, there was no such issue anymore and the games of the Star Fox series never needed to get their titles changed in Europe again.

Despite it being "America's Pastime", a lot of people here hate baseball because it's "boring" and there's too much standing around. I can see that, but at the same time, the rules are relatively easy to understand and actually playing it is more fun than watching it. But Americans seem to prefer that their sports are high-speed with lots of motion and impact.

Football by contrast seems to be more popular simply for the sheer brutality of it, seeing a bunch of guys dogpiled like a car crash. Most people I know who watch it, they're in it for that. Lots of them openly root to see serious injuries; thus why it's a "Real Man's Sport". You can't talk to them about concussions or brain damage or any other debilitating injury, they just say "They signed up for that" and "It's entertainment". They don't care about the athletes as human beings at all. So by definition I've always been a little turned off from it. Along with the fact that I can't make heads or tails of the rules.

Likewise, basketball is very popular for having rules which are simple to understand but also a lot of movement and people running around constantly. Hockey is less popular, but again, still pretty popular because it isn't "boring", and also the potential for fights to happen, which many players have admitted is something they stage to increase interest in the games. They know it gets a good reaction from the crowd, so they're encouraged to commit penalties and get into brawls. Pretty stupid.

I gotta be honest, I don't have a ton of regard for sports or sports fans. Athleticism is one thing but so many people outspokenly mainly watch sports because they like seeing people get hurt, and that to me is pretty redneck.

Baseball isn't popular at all in Europe. The UK never managed to convince us to like Cricket because it looks stupid. So we don't bother with what we view as the American version of Cricket pretty much. Baseball bats here are only used as weapons by thugs.

Most of us play basketball or volleyball at some points in our lives in gym class in school. No one plays baseball or American style football.

Well, it's funny because a lot of Europeans think American style football is less violent than rugby because rugby players don't wear armor or helmets. Also, if you show us a video of the Super Bowl... it looks very boring to us. Full of commercials and stoppage time. And whenever it makes the news is because of whoever did a half-time concert during it.

In our kind of football it's more the fans that are aggressive and best each other up. Sometimes even murder each other. It's a very tribal sport and many people consider it their religion. Hooliganism is not a thing in American sports culture afaik.

People who are into violent sports here just watch boxing or MMA I guess.

Basketball, like football, is a very easy sport to pick up and play. Also very cheap to play. Doesn't require fancy equipment. Building basketball courts all over the city is very easy.

I don't watch sports to watch violence. I like the athleticism and the cool stuff athletes do. Maybe that's why I'm not into violent sports or combat sports. Closest thing I like to that is wrestling but that's fake. They're not legitimately trying to hurt each other.

(American) Football to me is horrible to watch because it's just eight seconds at most of people scrambling around, then someone blows a whistle and they all stand around for three minutes. Then they reset and go again. If someone manages to move the ball forward six inches it's considered parade-worthy. To me it's just agonizingly boring.

My Dad played high school football with Joe Theisman, who's something of a sports celebrity over here. So I had to go to a lot of games for the school he played for, but I always hated it. My mother-in-law is a Jets fanatic so she's always watching the games, and I can't stand it because she always yells and hollers at the TV, and I've got so much PTSD from living here and all the yelling and screaming that every time she watches a game I end up jumping out of my skin every time I hear her yell. Just awful.

That only makes it more hilarious when a lot of Americans look at our football and call it boring.

The action never stops here unless there's a foul or the ball goes out. And it usually starts again after a few seconds or a minute. The flow of it is like the flow of basketball pretty much. No turn based BS. Sports shouldn't be real life JRPGs.

Apparently a lot of Americans think football is boring because of the low scoring. 1 goal equals 1 point. Match scores are generally 2-0, 1-0, 0-0, 1-1, 3-2, 3-0, 2-1, etc. A game where a score ends 4-3 is considering an outlier and a very high scoring match.

Personally, I think basketball scores being so huge makes each point scored seem less valuable and important. Its as if the first 30-40 points scored in a basketball match are irrelevant and just a warm up.

Anyway all sports are more fun to play than watch, from my experience. But obviously most of us cannot play as well as the pros do.

Yeah, like I always enjoyed playing basketball but as a short white guy I was terrible at it. Still fun though. I played a little after-school rec but that was it, outside of gym class.

I was more a kickball and dodgeball guy. The only trophies I ever got in sports were for captaining the Champion Dodgeball and Kickball teams for our school's after-school activities league one year. That was awesome. Especially because I usually got a lousy draft placement, so all I could pick from were the kids nobody wanted. We made it work, though. So long as there was me and one other kid as the "skill players", everybody else got by on pluck.

People would get SO mad because they "got beat by a bunch of scrubs", but them's the breaks, cupcakes. Sometimes it's just about who wants it more.

I was insanely good at dodgeball, back when my knees still worked right. That's kinda how we'd win; it wasn't ALL on me, but what would happen is, I'd usually be one of the last kids standing for my team, and there was a rule that if you caught a ball that was thrown at you, one teammate could come back into the game, and if you were the very last one standing and then caught a ball that was flung at you, your entire team would get to come back in. So that was always my strategy. Kids would get tagged out and be all "Sorry, man," and I'm like "Stay loose, I'll fix it." Worked every time. I'd be the last one in and the guys on the other team would be like, "Ahhhhh F*CK." Because they knew it was just a matter of time until I snatched one out of the air, and then my whole team would come in, grab every loose ball and just blitz the hell out of whoever was left on the other team.

Again, not ALL me, I just happened to be a very good catcher, and I used to be really fast before my knee went. Ironically, from jamming it while playing dodgeball.

Kickball, I was alright. Not as good at kickball as dodgeball but I was really good at analyzing the other kids, so I think I made a good Captain simply because I could plan and execute good strategy. Like I'd know who was slow, who couldn't catch, what have you, and play around their weaknesses. I remember I had this one girl on my team who everyone always figured was an easy out, she was a tiny, stick-thin little thing, picked last for everything, and she'd always get so nervous when she went up to kick. And I'd just whisper, "See the fat kid between second and third base? Kick it right to him, keep it on the ground, he'll never get to it before you get on first base." Sure enough, she'd have like no power behind the kick but nobody could get to it before she got on, and I'd arrange the order to be sure someone could bring her home and score on either the next play or the one after.

I loved that. These "scrub" kids weren't used to winning, I could tell, and it actually felt great that I could help them get there. And again, seeing the "better" kids get all demoralized because they couldn't even beat a bunch of "losers" always made me smile. As for me, I could get a home run every now and again, about 50/50, but I was mostly just fast and knew how to hit it where they weren't. "Small Ball" may not be exciting, but hey, we got trophies out of it. A W is a W, y'know what I mean?

Good times. Lots of fun.

You guys have dodgeball teams and competitions? Here it's just something kids play in gym class occasionally.

I guess that explains the Napoleon Dynamite movies lol

I have no idea what Kickball is.

Well, I'm awful at sports but basketball was the one I was the e last bad at because in HS I was mostly in classes with like 20 girls and 4 guys. And naturally I was quite taller than most of the other players. So it was a lot easier for me to block and steal balls.

I was never the kind of kid who played sports during recess because I was lousy and other kids simply didn't tolerate crappy players such as myself. Being a boy who's bad at sports automatically makes you uncool. Funny thing is, I was bad at Magic the Gathering too but everyone still accepted playing with me. But sports? No. They'd get really angry at me and other guys who couldn't do anything. They'd take it very personally we're not gifted athletes for some bizarre reason. The whole "just do your best" wasn't enough for them. They made you feel like you were competing in the pro leagues.

Honestly that's the kind of stuff that makes a lot of people start hating sports when they're kids. All the elitism, pressure and lack of sportsmanship and empathy for not so good players. I was even accused of being gay at some point because I had difficulties scoring goals in football ffs
