No, more that we are hoping people actually do some quick Googling or research that what they think they are complaining about, isn’t actually what they want to complain about. A bit like the constant woke/liberal assertion they complain about everything… oh look the rabid right wing Christians doing it too, but oh, that’s okay for them to do it

I got the reference right but the wrong painting… it was actually The Symposium of the Gods.

That is a bit much.

I am sure that schools in Europe don't expect you to memorize Ochpaniztli for instance, or the stories of Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. If they do your kids have much better things to be learning. If they want to look on their own time, or in a specialized college thats on them.
For the record I was taught about Crockett and Boone at school and I have passing knowledge of the Aztecs.

And I never suggested that anyone needs to be taught every minute detail of any subject, only that it's useful (as proven by this very thread) to have at least some knowledge of cultures other than your own.

My point is that Mayhem is correct that if people actually took the time to learn something instead of screaming at the merest shadow of a perceived slight we wouldn't have pointless discussions like this in thread which would've been 20-odd posts shorter if they had.

Further the IOC stands to gain absolutely nothing by directly insulting Christians so why would they? The table being arranged the way it was, was solely for the purpose of it being viewed and filmed from a single angle. They were celebrating the Greek heritage of the Olympics and that's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Looking at the picture...yeah. If they are trying to say that the start of that was not a reference to The Last Supper they are liars (the kid is Judas funny enough). They may have ended with Dionysis but that image is one of the most famous ones in historically Christian nations (oh which France is one).

Then they wasted your time. Big time.

“The Last Supper” was done by Leonardo around 1498. "Le Festin des Dieux" was done by Jan Harmensz van Biljer around 1635.

Hardly anyone knows about the latter, but everyone knows about the former. You think they’d pick a lesser known painting for a big expensive show at the Olympics? Again, they’re gaslighting because it’s backfiring on them.

It’s like that time the Gay Men’s Choir sung “We’re Coming For Your Children” to make fun of the conservatives’ fears of the community being filled with p***philes, but it only made them look even worse.

Now to clarify...I dont care that they they referenced it. I just had two points so far here...

1. You cant expect people to know about every single detail about every cultural item.

2. They are denying it because people got pissed. They need to own what they did rather then try to deny and say they did what they intended.

Sorry, not buying it. Especially since the Olympic committee and the guy behind this had a public apology for it and not once said it was meant to be something else. And the director, Thomas Jolly, did admit in an interview that it was based on The Last Supper.

Either way, it doesn't excuse why there was some orgy in a library when this is supposed to be a show that is meant for families.

I've seen like a minute each of women on bikes and men's water volleyball.

edit: Supposedly this guy, Simon Nogueira, was one among a number of guys to play the masked torch carrier. Had a feeling there might be more than one, just based on the nature of getting around the city in the parts that were not pre-recorded, but not possibly as many as 12 with how similar build they all had.

Argue about the opening all you want, but the masked guy (or plural guys) were the best part. lol (Okay the mechanical horse on the water and that figure, too, were also cool.)

So far, a few medals for us, surprise loss in the swimming for Peaty, random Italian swam race of his life.

This bit I will somewhat agree with, but still hold to the please Google first part. I recognised the reference to Dionysus, but I had to go look up what the robot horse on the Seine was all about.

Water volleyball exists, but has never been an Olympic event, like water polo.

People getting upset over drag queens and the like can we spare a minute for some outrage at an actual child rapist being allowed to compete at the Olympics.

It's ****ing disgusting. He should be banned for life. The crowd are right to boo him. People should walk out and let him play to an empty stadium.

Steven van de Velde, paedophile, convicted rapist and Olympian.

They also allow women beaters into the Olympics. Look what happened to that female boxer.
