4K TV Research

I love the 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos features of TVs and surround sound we have today. I bought my current 4K TV 8 or 9 years ago and I think the time has come to get a major upgrade.

At first, I was looking at the Sony A80L and its current price, but I found something even better today. I'm highly considering the Sony A95L OLED 55".

Right now, the open-box excellent (nearly new) condition is going for $1,440 as opposed to sealed box new of $2,800, which I won't justify getting when the nearly new price is half off and just as good as the expensive price. So I figure by December 15, when I cash in my Sony Rewards for the final time before the program ends on December 31, and get $100 Best Buy e-gift card, and save up my money between this month and December, plus the $300 my mom gave me for my recent birthday, I'll get it. So in the end, the TV I'm going for now is only $150 more for a serious upgrade compared to the TV I was looking for. So why not spend the $1,350 for the major upgrade from my 2016 current TV as long as I should cash in my Sony Rewards just before they expire?

What kind of TVs do you guys have, because I want to research other possible options, but I'm only sticking with Sony, because my dad got me hooked on Sony products about 30 years ago.

Why are you doing the upgrade to a new tv in the first place? What's wrong with the one you already have? Any important feature missing? Has a major improvement in the 4k technology happened in the last 8 or 9 years?

My current TV doesn't have the Sony BRAVIA XR processor and it's not an OLED. There's nothing really wrong with it; I just want a sharper image. I hear since the time I bought my LED that OLEDs have gotten better when it comes to the risk of a burn-in on the screen. Besides, I want a TV bigger than the 49" I have now; I'm going 55" next. Besides, when I get the next TV, I'll give my current set to my mom to put in the attic gym we built earlier this year, since it needs it. I mean who doesn't want to workout no entertainment?

Also, I'm upset with Best Buy after what I saw after I took another look at the TV's page. I appears the TV I want isn't available to order in my general area and to buy it brand new would be twice the price than the open-box nearly new condition I was going for. So unless something comes up with that by the time I cash in my Sony Rewards (December 15), I may have to go with the TV I was originally looking for: the A80L and in NEW condition for $1,200 minus $75 from the gift cards.

Speaking of my Sony Rewards. I checked my points on the Sony Rewards site and I have 8,990 points. The Best Buy e-gift card $50 is 6,500 points; and 3,500 points for the $25. So in order to be able to get $75 worth of gift cards, I'll need to spend $1,010 in regular purchases by the time I cash them in. I won't spend that much just to enough points to save $75 when it'll be cheaper just to get the $50 card and a smaller one like $5, or $10 worth. In this case, maybe I can get the TV sooner than mid December.

I did research on both TVs I was looking at (the A80L and the A95L) and as far as the screen goes, which is my main focus on this upgrade, there's really not much a difference. In fact, it may be more economical to get the A80L instead.

Mine's is a 50 inch Samsung Q60T QLED. I think the picture quality looks fine on it tbh I have noticed a ghosting effect on some of the 4K movies though which is a disappointment, I'm not sure what settings I have to mess around with to fix it. I'll be honest though I haven't had the motivation lately to really watch movies. So I've spent a few thousand pounds on 4K's and haven't even looked at them much
